Did you find that their requirements were very strict? I have lousey credit and one former arrest from 8 yrs ago (no prior convictions though). But I'm VERY good at what I do. Well, I was not hired after 2 months of grueling interviews, letters of recommendation, questions about my family, my age, a background check, questions about prior criminal activity, etc....and told they decided on another candidate by the HR person.

Well I was careerbuilder.com this morning and the university is still advertising the opening. So I called them and they are still taking applications! Weeks ago, when asked why I wasn't hired or what I could do to strengthen my candidacy, they wouldn't give me any direct answers. I was only told they had several extremely qualified candidates to apply (myself included) and that they are looking for the right fit. They also said, they did not do a background check on me, that they decided not to proceed with my application. Why lie about hiring someone else?

I don't know exactly the situation in higher education but I’m guessing is somewhat similar to what I do.

I work at a high school and even here the process is very complicated. Sometimes, there are employee bargaining units which determine much of this process. In the case of my school district, one of the main stipulations says that they have to consider lateral transfers or current employees first, before even considering outside applicants.

Secondarily, most of us know many times it comes down to whom you know inside the company. Pretty much you have to be recommended by someone that already works at the institution.

I've been in interview panels and even though it may seem a lie, it is not. When they said they're looking for the right fit, they mean it. You have to accept the fact that there are people who are more qualified than you out there. The key I guess is that those more qualified candidates don’t apply when you do, it’s like the lottery. When they don't select anyone it does mean that you don't fit what they're looking for.

Oh and one more thing; persistency does work.

sometimes a school training supplies a individual a feeling of feat. sometimes it opens doorways that could have remained closed had a level not been earned. As a youthful individual, I possibly (at cases) theory a level replaced right into a waste of money. not anymore although. a level is extra effective than in basic terms a potential to consistently attempt for a much bigger, extra effective paying interest. while human beings many times connect a school degree with earning power and not the rest, that is while they get into hardship, emotionally. The social interplay a school training supplies till now and after commencement is one in all of the main precious non-financial reward you could actually get.
