a) I have read this novel.
b) I read it about 7 years ago.

Both of these sentences refer to the same event. Why are two different tenses (simple past and present perfect) used? What is the difference between (a) and (b)?

I have a little trouble choosing my science courses over my High School Junior and Senior Year. The choices are AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP Physics. For Junior year, I can choose AP Chemistry or AP Biology, and for Senior year, I can choose the previos two or Physics. I'm thinking with going with AP Physics for Junior year, but what do you think I should pick for my other class? I want to be a doctor and go to a medical college, so what's reccommend?

I have an essay to write in my college.... and was told to write a logical definition, to explain the basic ideas of the word " JUSTICE "
Seriously, i m not that good in English.. but...
I looked at wikipedia.. i kinda get the idea but i dun really know how to explain it in detail.
I do know.... Justice as in fairness... In order to have justice, there is got to have fairness.

Today I was given a task to figure out how many jellybeans are in this one jar. I am not allowed to take out the jellybeans inside the jar, I am only allowed to take one jellybean out and weigh it, measure etc. So do you guys have any strategies on figuring out how many jellybeans are in the jar without taking anything out of it? And there is no spare jar to weigh/measure etc. Thank you.

Explain to me how an equation system works.
For example, I dont get :

5x+4y=53
6x+3y=64
