In Great Britain, it cost $10.59 and in Germany, $8.42. If 74 million tickets were sold in Great Britain and Germany, how many would have to be sold in each country to earn $686 million? Suppose x million tickets were sold in USA.
I'm assuming GB and Germany sold 74 million each. If that's not the case, you need more information.
Then 74 * (10.59 + 8.42) + x * 4.59 = 686
Solve for x to get the number of tickets in the USA.
1406.74 + x * 4.59 = 686
x = 686 - 1406.74
x < 0, so there is something wrong here.
The question starts off 'earned more in Europe'. Does it perhaps say how much more?

well i dont feel like solving the equation but i can answer this though:
f(x)=mx+b
because it f(x) or y is just a function of x so you can use f(x)
