As I was taught in school, the articals "a" and "an" are dependant on the following word starting in a vowell or consinant ie "I have A banana, he has AN apple"

But what is the deal with "History" and "Historical" we say "China has 'a' history" but then we say "AN historical event happened in China"

Not only is "h" a consinant so by English "rule" should be preceeded by "a" but "historical" is the same word but expanded and the artical changes. Is this explainable? Are there other words like this?

Ok, you've probably all seen brainteasers like these:

57 HV = 57 Heinz Varieties
29 D in F in a LY = 29 Days in February in a Leap Year
90 D in a RA = 90 Degrees in a Right Angle
18 H on a GC = 18 Holes on a Golf Course

Now, does anyone know the answer to this one?? :

"2 Number it T to T" = ??

What should I bring to the interview??
- I did not complete my admission essay (due 1/31). Should I finish it tonight and bring it tomorrow, or should I avoid cramming it? I'm afraid that if I don't hand it in by tomorrow, it will be looked down upon.
- Should I bring a resume or a portfolio of my work? This is a general university, but I'm a photographer and poet, so should I bring some of my work to the interview or just submit it with my application form itself?

i will finish 3 ap courses (history, bio,chem) by the time i graduate. so when i'm in college, will i be forced to take much more advanced courses specializing in history, bio, and chem or will i be given a choice to pick any course i want? and will i be saving thousands of dollars in the long run because i took ap courses in high school? thanks for taking your time.

I am a first year teacher at an urban school in california, and although my fourth grade class is a great group of kids, they are really noisy.
i dont mean that I have just a few noisy kids...it may sound funny, but it seems like the entire class gets noisy all at once. I've tried everything I can think of, but it still is a problem at least a few times a day, and it's beginning to make it difficult to teach....help!

Why do people who are really agents public schools think that all public schoolers have sex, use drugs, are not as educated, don't know how to act around others other then their own age, don't respect adults, have no life outside the school, etc...

Sure some do (just like some home schoolers), but most DO NOT!
Most kids who are public schooled are great kids, and yes, most home schoolers are great kids also.

Now if you really think about it, if supposedly "all" public schoolers have sex why don't you see almost all the girls in the country pregnant? And if none of them get an "education" then why is it that there are so many people enrolled in college and getting degrees?
And if they don't know how to act around others other then their own age, how do they communicate with others?

Are you getting my point?
