that the word 'alot' is not a word?????? It's always and has been forever 'a lot,' - two words.

lol! I recently found that out, too! Thanks for educating others...when I see it written that way now, it drives me batty!

Actually since so many people use this incorrect, it actually is become accepted and seen in some dictionaries. This is especially true for India English speakers as this is a word in their version of English. Believe it or not. God Bless Slang.

Probably when they realize that people 'lose' weight not 'loose' weight
when they reaize you go to a web 'site' not 'sight'
when they ask for 'advice' not 'advise'
when they ask about going to 'college' not 'collage'

Maybe people will learn from these corrections. Maybe we can change the world and teach them better grammar.

BTW

And dictionary.com does not recognize alot other then as an acronym neither does either of my dictionaries.

It is a common spelling error.

There does exist in English a word spelled “allot” which is a verb meaning to apportion or grant.

it takes time for people to realize that, especially when they're used to it. we know it's hard to change a habit. in tempos in mores!
