I'm in a major right now that I hate!!! I feel like my dreams are poisoned..but...this major will help me get a job even if it's in the section I wanted but not the field. The other major I want..is well very mind expanding...but very un marketable...but I would love doing it. So which should I choose? also I CANNOT change my minor or make one of these my minor...
option 1) economics...to help in global development you must understand how the world works..ie:money...this is smart and does make one realistic about the world's greed...but so boring that I hate every class I sit in I feel dead! but for many foreign service agencies this is a plus.
Option 2) Cultural anthropology...I could study different cultures, talk about issues of rascism and gender...just study the human animal...I would LOVE to take this...but unmarketable..I might be able to work in the non profit sector..but I would be happier..poor but happy!
Plez help, I have to change courses soon!

Introduction

The book I am reading is called “Pictures of Hollis Woods” and the author is “Patricia Reilly Giff” who I think is an amazing author. She plotted her book step by step to get every reader every interest into it and that is what she did (to me at least). This is one book I finally got interested into it which is kind of amazing. This is an amazing book because it shows how lucky kids or people can be since they have parents. Parents are there for you to help you through life. On the other hand this book shows a girl who is an orphan since she was a baby. She was found in a blanket when she was baby with a note on it that says “Name her Hollis Woods”.

I never really cared about anything until I read this book. I used to always be like my parents are just there and who really needs them. They always work and work but I never thought about why do they work and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be here. I need to stop talking about the book and start talking about the author since this is just the introduction. Her name is Patricia Reilly Giff.

This book is not the only book she has written but she also has written books like “Lily’s Crossing” and “Maggie’s Door”. She won two Newberry Honor Books and this was one of them. When Patricia was a young girl she use to love reading so much when her older sister wanted to talk to her, she would have to take away the book from her. Patricia’s favorite books were “Little Women”, “The Secret Garden” and much more. This affection to love went through her blood to her children. She was also a reading teacher for twenty years, a person who gives professional advice for Dell Yearling and Young Yearling books, and last but not least and author for about sixty books. Let us just say she was surrounded by books all her life.

After she got her Bachelors Degree at the college of Marymount she took the advice of her professor and became a reading teacher. She even admitted that she loved teaching and that it was her life and the only reason she left her job because she was writer, teacher, and a mom. During her twenty years of teaching she earned her Masters Degree from St. John University. One morning she told her husband Jim:”I would like to write a book and that is sure what I am going to do”.

Patricia needed an office so her husband Jim cramped two closets together to make one room. So we can say she started writing in a closet but that is better than nothing. She also said that she wants her readers to cry or laugh from the book she has written or to be so interested into the book that they will take it anywhere with them. Ever book Patricia writes she makes kids think about other people or struggles we should all think about. If she is not able to do so she would walk in the park, ask her kids Ali, Jim, and Bill, or lay down just to get an idea to write a book about. When she is on break from writing she usually reads while she is taking a bath or going to the movies. This is what she quotes” I want to see children curled up with books, finding an awareness of themselves as they discover other people's thoughts. I want them to make the connection that books are people's stories, that writing is talking on paper, and I want them to write their own stories. I'd like my books to provide that connection for them." --Patricia Reilly Giff.

Anyone know where to find the forms (FREE please) to fill out to indicate what you would want to happen to your body (ie creamated, buried, organ donation, etc) when you die or who is to be in charge of making those type of decisions? Also, I don't have much at all, but I'd like to decide who gets what (my car, money, collectibles etc) Do you HAVE to go through a lawyer or can you just fill out a standard form and get it notarized??

we just got our scores back, and i got:

critical reading - 74
math - 80
writing - 75

is this good enough to be a national merit finalist or scholar? how good/bad is this in comparison to you or any of your friends?

if any of you have been through the whole national merit thing - what are my chances of making it all the way through?

any input is greatly appreciated :)

and by the way - i asked this question earlier and everyone answered as if the scores i gave above were percentiles. they are not. these are just the numeric scores i received.

my score report said i was in the 99th percentile for all 3 subjects?
