I am taking French, and I am not sure if I should drop the subject for my final two years. I'd rather take an extra science class, but I hear that colleges like to see four years of foreign language. Is this true?

Whenever I have a test or something in class I can easily remember the material so I can get a passing grade on the test, but now that I am in college and am paying good money for it, I want to start understanding. So I wanted to know if anyone had any advice they could give me on how to better my understanding of subjects, or if you know of any websites that has information like that on it I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I am currently applying to graduate programs in English, but I don't want to waste my money and time (nor the program's time) if I don't have a chance of getting in. I have an extremely high GPA, GRE Verbal in 93 percentile, great letters of reference, and have presented at three conferences (2 local, 1 national). Assuming my personal statement and writing sample are fine, how likely is it that the following schools will admit me?

1. University of Pennsylvania
2. University of Virginia
3. University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign
4. University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill
5. University of Texas--Austin
6.New York University
7. Vanderbilt University
8. Boston University

All of these schools are a good fit for my interests. Any advice is appreciated, even if it is only about 1 or 2 of the schools. Also, if some of these are long shots, any ideas on how I can improve to get in? Thanks.

I thought I was emo, until I read some other definitions. Now, I don't know which is the real definition. What is the exact definition? I already know it is short for emotional, but that doesn't really describe the type of people.

I got a M.D. degree at China Medical University in Taiwan. And had a MPH from Tulane University in Louisiana. I also enter the Summer Session of Public Health of Harvard University on 2005.

In the 1994, I had worked in the Genuine-Bissau of West Africa one year.
After more ten years, I had kept the nice family and money. However I would like to work in Africa again now.

So I apply the DPH of Population and International Health and focus on Population and Reproductive Health and concentrate in the epidemiology of infectious diseases.

By way of the school of Public Health, I hope to intensify the knowledge of public health. Then I could go to Africa.

If you couldn’t accept me for the DPH program, I would like to change to no-degree (1year) population and international health course.

I want people's opinions as to an appropriate amount of homework. I'm not looking for recommended hours per grade or whatever. I'm wondering whether you think homework in itself is of value to busy students these days. I'm talking about kids that are involved in sports, outside classes, "geeky" clubs, etc. My kids used to go to private school and got TONS of homework. Now they go to public school and are able to finish their assigned work in school because a lot of their schoolmates are in home situations that are not conducive to homework completion (semi-inner city school). In any event, I don't see a huge difference in the quality of their education, and I've come to the conclusion that amount of homework does not equate to quality of education. My nephew, however, feels that homework, and a lot of it, is a necessary part of education. Do you agree with me or my nephew (best answer to the person that substantiates their response even if they don't agree with me)?
