European Yeshivas
Yeshivas are Jewish religious schools/seminaries. The Nazis destroyed all (I think) Europe's yeshivas except one Polish one, whose members escaped before the Nazis could kill them. They escaped to Manchuria via Japan via Russia with the aid of visas issued by heroic Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiune_Sugihara).
Japan had a secret plan to use Jewish people to prosper Manchuria (see M. Tokayer & M. Swartz, The Fuju Plan: The Untold Story of the Japanese and the Jews During World War II, New York: Paddington Press, 1979).
A few weeks ago, in 2006, the first ordinations at a German Yeshiva since 1942 took place (see http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Briefs/9450.htm).
