I'm in my 3rd year of school, I have all the generals requirements out of the way and I can't decide on my major. I'd originally wanted to do accounting, then I thought teaching (elementary), which is great and all, but I don't know if I want to deal with all the regulations and garbage teachers have to deal with, like No Child Left Behind and stuff like that. I think there's a demand for teaching and accounting. I love dealing with numbers and financial stuff, so I'm thinking I might consider accounting again. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

I had a workshop years ago that stated kids learn colors (shapes, numbers, letters, etc) in a specific order. The speaker emphasized that certain skills or "steps" just aren't learned before the first ones are in place. By steps, I mean the ability to tell the difference between two colors held side by side, ability to name a color when asked, the ability to point to the color being named, etc. Can anyone help?

I'm in Jr. High School and I'm really interested in teaching. I've been to NYC three times for auditions and have a contract with a modeling agency. I appear in lots of photogenic contests and am praised for my ability in dance. But I still think teaching holds many oppurtunities at home. I was wondering what a teacher's average salary is-just to see if it's worth it.

My family and I emigrated from Russia to the United States five yeas ago. That was
one meaningful event that I will never forget, flying for twelve hours straight from Russia to
the United States. We landed in LAX at one o'clock in the morning. After getting out of the airplane,
we went to the baggage claim to get our twelve bags, each bag weighing fifty pounds. From
the baggage claim I dragged myself with a fifty pound bag on each of my shoulders to the parking lot
where my dad’s friend Mike waited to pick us up in his white Chevy twelve-seat van. Once in the van,
we drove for three more hours to a place which we would call home for the next two months until we
could find affordable apartments.
When we finally arrived to a big house, my family and I were surprised. Nobody told us that
we would live in a two story house. We eagerly took our bags from the van, so excited that we forgot
how tired we were, and dragged all bags inside the house. The house was really old on the outside but
inside it looked like new. Also, inside the house it smelled like paint. Mike told us that this house was
built in the seventies. We left all our bags in the living room. Mike then showed us around the house,
where the bathrooms were, the kitchen, and more important to us at that time, the bedrooms. In most
of the rooms there wasn’t any furniture except in the bedrooms. After a tour in the house I slowly climbed
up the stairs to the second floor. While I was climbing on the second floor I thought I would pass out
from weakness right on those stairs, but I didn't. I climbed all the way and waddled to the first bedroom
I saw there was a bed already made for sleeping. I didn't even take my clothes off; I just fell right on
the bed and passed out.
The next day I woke up at 2:00 p.m. because of the beams of light that were shining in my
eyes through a slightly opened curtain. Even after sleeping I was so tired, so I got up really slowly and
went to the bathroom that was on the same floor. After getting out of the bathroom, I was curious about
how nature looks in US, so I went down the stairs on the first floor quietly, trying not to wake anybody
up. On the first floor I was searching for a door that would take me outside of the house. I tried to look
trough the windows, but I couldn't see anything because there were closed wooden shutters outside
the house and the glass was dirty.Searching for a couple of minutes, I finally found the door, I didn't
even open it and I already new that this door would take me outside. I new it because of the squared
shapes that door had, and by the golden handle.

I strode to the door and put my hand on the handle to open it, surprisingly at that time handle
was hot to the touch. I turned the handle and opened the door slowly, and the beams of sun blinded me.
I shut my eyes instead of shutting the door and started opening them little by little until they got used to
the sun. I made a few steps out of the house while I was squinting my eyes to see what was outside,
and oh boy was I amazed! I was shocked by the view and the weather. Then blew the hottest wind I
had ever felt. I had never experienced one like this one before, with dust blowing in my pale white face,
cooking it. The trampled ground that I was standing on was so hot, that it felt like I was standing on
a hot pan. There weren't any trees, or rivers, not even a blade of grass. Instead I saw naked dark brown
mountains ten miles from the house we were living in. The mountains were all around us, so it felt like we
were living in some kind of a bowl. There weren't any houses around for as far as my eyes could see.
There weren't any sounds of living creatures, but there was that of a hot blowing wind. Looking at all this
I asked myself, "Where in the world am I? Is this how all of the US looks like?" After I asked my self these
questions I started backing up, back into the house. With out even looking where was I going, I stepped
on some kind of spikes; it felt like thousands of needles piercing my foot. Later I found out from Mike
that these spikes grew on some kinds of weeds.
The next day Mike came to visit us. I asked Mike with a wavering voice, "Does the entire US
look like this place?" Mike saw that I was worried, so he told me with a smile that all the states look
different, that states have different weather. In some states it’s snowing while in the other ones it’s raining
nonstop, and in the few states, like California, it’s hot all the time. Also he told me that behind those
mountains there were three cities: Apple Valley, Hesperia and Victor Valley, and that in those cities there
were schools and colleges. There were more people over those mountains. When I heard this I was so
relieved, because I had thought for a moment that we would live like in the days of Moses. Sooo, my
journey in the United States has begun, and while I am a bit apprehensive descovering US, I believe this
is going to be some fun!
