Multi-part question:
Are most of the activities with other homeschoolers or are they community programs?
Did your children add to the number of activities as they got older?
Can you estimate the amount of time your children spent/spend with only you and immediate family at home?

My kids are still quite young and only my dd is currently involved in extra-curricular activities, although both kids participate in a variety of homeschooling activities--parties, pot-lucks, get-togethers, play dates, weekly park days, field trips once a month... I'd love to see the variety of activities and how age may be a factor in the type and amount.

Of course, if you are a homeschooled student, please let us know what sorts of things you do.

Our children are growing up in a country where the dominant language (Russian) is different than that which we speak at home (English). Our 4-yr old is conversant in both languages, and we are now at home learning letters and sounds (Eng). She will be attending preschool and will be learning the same in Russian. I have been told, however, that we should focus on reading skills in her dominant language, and then, only when she understands the process of reading, add the Russian. Your experiences, opinions, please? Is it really more likely that she will have trouble decoding if she is exposed to two (at some points similar) alphabets simultaneously?

Why is it English majors or people with perfect english grammar are full of themselves, and think that i shouldn't teach english to foreigners? I know i have bad grammar, and i have an accent(i'm hispanic american) but i have good teaching techniques, i make it fun, and in fact i've taught several japanese and chinese people and they are really happy that i help them. i also speak japanese so i can explain concepts to some of them. Whats wrong with teaching even if i'm not perfect...Some people in yahoo answers think that to teach i should have perfect american accent, have perfect grammar, and be talkativve outgoing like many new yorkers i see in tv. but i feel i can teach even if i m not like that
