How do we know whether a quadratic equation can be factorised or whether it needs to be solved using the formula?

It's just that it seems we have to do so much work trying to work out whether or not it can be factorised that it would just be easier to use the formula every time. But then I don't understand why the text book even bothered to mention factorisation if it's not needed.

it's extremely expensive. It's not just a stupid program, it's an accredited Bachelor's to Master's degree program and I'm extremely interested. Only, the financial aid they offer doesn't help me out at all, and I can't get federal help because it's an online school and not part of "the list". I'd really prefer not to take out a personal loan, as I'm already in way in debt. Any alternate suggestions? Serious replies only please. Thanks!

I will be moving to St. Louis and i don't remember too much about it since i was a little girl. I really need help because although i have somewhere to stay my family doesn't really want me to go to school first but they want me to work first. which i don't have a problem with working but i really need some skills other than customer services and working in resturants i need something with some benefits!!! Please!!! I just came out of bootcamp about a wk and a half ago and no i didn't make it otherwise i wouldn't be in this situation so i am really stressed out and my parents just bascially told me that me trying to go to school for IT or graphics is a waste of my, i repeat my time and i should be more realistic about the career that i want . So like i said anyone that can give me some advice please i will gladly take to it. Any good job sites in st.louis i will gladly take to looking into.
