The mane effect was the expansion of Greek culture!
Alexander is responsible for the spreading of the Greek civilization and he is responsible for the creation of the most extend Greek world!
He turn Greek into international language which later on was the most important factor for the spread of Christianity!
But notice!! Alexander did not forced the nations of the Persian empire to accept the Greek culture!
He instead fused Greek with Asiatic and thus he created a new Greek-Asian culture which was called Hellenistic Greek!
Hope I've helped you!
{Do not confuse the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia or Macedon (which was the birth place of Alexander) with the modern state of Makedonija (or FYROM or Slav Macedonia as they are not related at all). The confusion has started a few years ago because that small state started to use the name “Republic of Macedonia” causing a great confusion with real Macedonia in Greece.}

He created a short-lived empire in which ideas, art, foods, weapons and genes were shared. He died at a young age, so anyone who reads about him has to wonder, "What would he have accomplished if he had lived?" He was interested in new ideas and influences, and made his soldiers marry native girls in order to spread Hellenism (Green culture) while absorbing elements of the new civilizations he saw. He valued science and education, unlike many tyrants.

Militarily, he invented flanking. Imagine war today without flanking, just people standing in front of each other pulling the triggers.
