Human nature tends toward the selfish and evil. Two of the boys stood for fairness and cooperation, while the rest fell one after another into barbarism until they murdered one of the "good" children and hunted the other. One of the characters says something like, "Why did it go wrong? We did everything the grownups would do!" Well, they did EXACTLY what grownups do, divide into factions and attempt to destroy the opposition.

Do you mean the "plot"? If so, it's about kids that get stranded on an island and after a while they start to go crazy and they use an animal head as their "idol" and it is covered with flies..hence, "lord of the flies"

Succinctly, Civilized humanity(represented by school boys) when placed in a structureless, non-governized society(the wild island), do not express their freedom by becoming a miniture replica of modern society with rules and lawyers et al, but revert to a society where might makes right and a pecking order of power evolves with the toughest, strongest kid at the top. The author (Golding) is saying ... weakness flourishes in modern societies, because of our morality, yet this morality is nothing more than a thin veneer under which lies our truer savage nature,

The novel "Lord of the Flies" follows a group of children on their way back from (or on their way to) a private school. They are on a small plane that crash-lands on an island where they are deserted and left to fend for themselves.
The theme is... i forget, quit wasting time online and read it. (Gawd damn, doesn't anyone read anymore).

It's about a very ambitious fly who wanted to rule all the other flies. Hence the title! A bit like the One Ring!

If I remember correctly - It's pretty much about how quickly and thouroughly humanity can be discarded...
The boys on the island basically descended to the level of animals without basic rules to live by - desperate people engaging in war and greed and strife....
Dunno - it's been a good ten years :)

The animalization of the human nature.
A group of boys are shipwrecked on an island. They divide into "clans" and they start a war...
Good novel. Good movie.
