Dining Out - July 2006

I have waited tables and I tip, but I am beginning to resent that I must tip the customary 15% plus if I got good service. When I already pay sky high prices for food and should be served well since I am there and paying, why do I then need to give a gift higher than taxes on my wages? I think the tip should come out of the already high cost, and resteraunt owners should pay better. What do you think?

I work at McDonald's in drive-thru. I hate it when people drive up to the speaker and and are on thier cell phones talking to who ever. I greet them and they are not even listening. Than they get MAD AT ME because they were talking and missed the greeting. I want to hit them! Pay attention people!!! Order your food and talk later!

You go out to dinner with a friend in New York City. The check comes at the end of the meal, but it does NOT include the $30 bottle of wine you ordered and consumed. You are only charged for the food. Would you consider this to be:

(A) A mistake which you should take advantage (say nothing and leave);

(B) An intentional waiver on the part of the restaurant (say nothing and leave); or

(C) A likely mistake which you should correct (call the oversight to the attention of the waiter and pay for the wine.

This is both a moral and a legal question. I am interested in not only what is ethically right, but also what is required under the law.
