Laptops & Notebooks - August 2007

I dont know what causes it. I tried a system restore, anti-virus, anti spyware scan, and still dont do the job.

What happens is that every now and then, windows would automatically turn off. A blue page with white words would immediately come out saying: "Windows has encountered a serious and needs to shut down........... deleting physical memory......." (there were a lot of words and it was too fast to memorize what was there). After that, my laptop would automatically restart and says "windows has just recovered from a serious error".

There is also no pattern to this. No specific program seems to trigger it and sometimes it happens immediately after restarting.

im getting a white mac book for hughschool becasue its more advance than a pc. i think. anyways, im also putting windows XP on my mac, that way i can still play pc games like sims for pc. (and yes i can put windows xp on a mac, i asked besy buy) so when i do put windows on it, i can go on the mac version and/or the windows version whenever i want.
was this a good choice to get a mac? and is the mac too complicated for a 14 yearold?

I have a Kingston ram but i am not sure if its compatible with my laptop.

What will happen if i put it on one of the laptop's lots and its not compatible? How will i know if it is or not after i put it?

I will do it myself because i cannot take it to a store right now or ask someone else to do it for me. (private reasons)

If i try to put it myself is there any chance i do something wrong?

Recently my 6 yr. old laptop died on me.
I ordered a new one from dell, but my old one had about 20gb. of music on it, I was wondering if there was a way I could get my info off the old laptop. I'm sure I can take it to a store, but they're trying to charge almost $200. Could I do it myself somehow?

I'm currently deciding on getting a new laptop and I found 2 decent laptops. One's AMD and the other Intel. I'm just wondering which is the best processor in terms of AMD, Intel and which is the best overall. Thanks!

What I really don't understand is that the Intel Core 2 Duo is the most expensive one but has only 1.73 Ghz...

That seems like a good deal. But th eonly thing i dont think i like is the graphics!!! will everything be not as clear as it would if i had nvidea or Geforce graphics???? It seems so dumb!!! i dont think i like these graphics. Tell me if its worth the difference. I am allllllllllwayz lookin at pictures and videoz on my computer. No gaming or anything. I was leaning on my laptop (the lower left hand corner) when all of a sudden my computer froze. A blue screen showed up and I had to restart my computer. When it restarted, it came up with a message saying that "primary hard disk drive 0 not found". I have SOO much summer and school work in there, and I'm freaking out. Is it too late to recover any data? I'm not sure whether I just knocked out my harddrive or actually damaged it.

I recently reinstalled from clean windows 2000 on this IBM. Everything works but my cd dvd drive. I can install programs via the cd drive, but when I drive any music cds or anything else it does not work or read. When I goto my computer, the cd drive does not even register. I have a Matshita dvd rom sr-8175. I understand that I don't need to have a driver for the cd drive to work. What is wrong?? This computer has two parts, the actual laptop and then the media slice/docking station with the floppy drive and cd drive. Who can help me please??

HI,
I will type this question without any editing, so you can se what the laptop does. As I type on my laptop, sometimes it doesnseem to register the keys that I push. I don't know if there is an option to perhaps adjust the sensitivity setting of my keyboard, or what. ButI sem to have to edit all of my sentences and fil in the keys that it didn't seem to register wen I yped it.

As you can see from what I typed above (I'm editing my typing now), there are missing letters that I did type- they just didn't seem to register for some reason. Might anyone have a suggestion?

I just got a brand new HP dv6000 and i followed the directions on setting it up and after it was all done i clicked on what i thought was the shut off button but in reality was just a hybernation button . So basically i thought my computer was charging all night, which it was, but it did not charge all the way so when i got up i actually turned it off & then charged it until the battery was at 100 %. but today when i tried using it, i noticed that the battery died unusually quick, so i charged it back up to 100% and then put it in "power save" and just let it sit. in 1 min. it was down to 99 % in 3 min down to 97 % and in 15 min it was down to 90% battery life. Now please keep in mind that i didn't run any applications & after about 5 min. the screen even went dormant & that it's in the lowest power consuption mode, & also that the n.b is brand new. i know n.b's battery life are pretty bad but i think that this is excessive, should i return it i got only 2 days left to xchange/return

My laptop is authorized. It is on my network. I can listen to the songs on the network at home, but I can't get them to stay on the laptop when it is away from home network. I'm taking the laptop on a trip. I can't figure out how to get my iTunes purchased songs onto my laptop. Ideas? Thanks!

my dad has gotten a new dell Notebook and he gave me his Mac iBook he hasn't used his iBook in about a year and completely forgot everything about it. he doesn't kno the password to log in. I went to the Apple Store and bought an OS X image *tiger edtion. We i turn it on i put the CD in and at just doesn't boot from it i don't kno wut i am doing wrong so if you can please help me i;d much appreciate it. and i am not a big fan of apples i am more into PC's. so i don't kno much in how to use a mac. please help me. thank you very much. oh and i also have windows vista ultimate and was wondering if i can put that instead of OS X tiger? but first i need to kno how to boot off of it. because i kno that in a regualar PC you either press F12 or Esc to go to the setup menu but i don't see that with the Mac.

just bought a new laptop with windows vista and im currently trying to install the internet. but when i insert the cd for the internet it says,
"No administration priviliges detected,
The currently logged on user does not have administration privilages.
This is preventing us installing your software
Please log on as administrator"
I am the only user, so this should mean that im the administrator? what do i need to do
any help is much appreciated, thankyou
