In response to the first question: he's absolutely right there is not question. Get an HP Pavillion. Why? Well Ofcourse there's the issue of viruses. But an anti-virus program will take care of that. And it's easy enough not to get viruses just don't download porn, and hacks from anything other than reliable resources! Mac's are only good for notebooks and editing. Even at that, HP will most definately provide better editing services than that. Plus HP's are better for notebooks because of the programs like Microsoft office. Most common uses of the MAc is storing information not writing. So unless you're wanting to store information likes students scores, and anything associated with bussineses, buy a Mac. That is why they are most preferred by teachers. The MAc interface also needs some time getting used to and can be frustrating at times. An HP computer will undoubtably be most beneficial in most cases....gaming.....writing....and heck it has bigger hardrives then Macs in most cases. Graphics cards are even better. ANd most Mac's parts are unavailble to change. So choose wisely.

It depends on what you will be doing. If you are just reading email, writing a few documents and spreadsheets the Macbook Pro is a waste of money. If you are not familier with Mac OS X there is a bit of a learning curve.
you If are going to be doing graphic design or video editing the Macbook Pro is the way to go.

You should get an HP Pavilion instead of a Macbook Pro, especially for school.

One simple reason why you shouldn't get a Mac: they are ridiculously expensive for the sub-par specs. Macs have to have such high prices because they share a very small market of the computer market, the monopoly of course belongs to Windows. For example, you can get a $500 Compaq Presario notebook or a MacBook with the same specs for $1200.

If that was my only choice I would get the Mac.
There are more options than those two.
If you ask 10 people what is the best Laptop or PC to get you will get 10 answers.
Get what you like, However --
Make sure you get as a minimum:
1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, CD/DVD burner.
and most important - 3 year warranty.
