AVOID emachines/gateway like the plague. Toshiba/compaq/dell/hp are the way to go for MOST people. The internet connection is NOT determined by your notebook, that is determined by your ISP. Almost all systems can be configured with 2 or more G of ramm, or can be added to. Intel core2duo is nice, but you should also consider AMD.

How are you going to use the puter? THAT will determine which chipset/vid card to buy. Reliability and tech support is the most important part of a notebook purchace. It is a bad idea to do gaming on a homework computer, but since youre a gamer, you need WINDOWS, not mac or linux. Most software that a SCIENCE major will use is windows based also (Macs have the advantage for journalism). You're going to want a puter with a good vid card if youre a gamer. Make sure it does NOT have hypermemory. Total screen resolution isn't as important youre going to turn down resolution for hardcore gaming anyway.

good luck next semester!

I will go with Gateway M6816. It has the latest Santa Rosa chipset and very large HD. Mac's HD is way too small and I bet you can't play most games you want on a Mac.

Gateway notebooks are reliable. M6816 is thinner than the HP and Dell ones.

M6816 is good bang for the buck and looks really nice too,

You must spend your money for the best brand.

As I know HP and Dell are the best in laptops for a long time and they are very reliable too. I trusted HP and I bought a HP laptop 2 years before, and still like the day I bought it. Didn't even have to service it at least once up to now.

I recommend you to buy a HP (with experience) or Dell laptop.

On www.hp.com you can even customize your laptop. And also you can check the price.

Get some information on MacBooks at the Apple Store. They are really reliable. I have a 15" MacBook Pro. I love it! It's awesome. If you prefer PCs, that's cool. But MacBooks rock! They have built in cameras and great and easy programs you can use to make/edit music (GarageBand), make movies(iMovie), burn awesome DVDs(iDVD), and iTunes is the best music player ever made. It's great if you have a creative side. But, don't get me wrong, it's good for school too. If you're used to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel they have a Mac version (and because you're a student you get those programs at a discount). They also have a Mac version of Photoshop. It runs great! I really reccommend checking out the site:
www.apple.com

Also, check out CNET.com, they have really good reviews and they probably have rated the computers you've listed. I am not a PC fan, so I can't answer your question adequately. Sorry...

Please pick me for best answer.
