The PC in question is a Compaq Presario 6000 with a 256MB. Is it as simple as buying another 256MB RAM to add onto another slot?

When i put DVD movies in my DVD rom, it tries to read, the led keep blinking few times. After 3 to 4 min., it stops and fail to recognise the DVD and DVD rom drive icon get venished from the "my computer" page. Waht could be the possible reason and solution for this?

I have samsung 2gb mighty drive (made by connect3d). i bought it and i got so many problems... I get some writte protection wrror message saying that its writte protected so i cant add or remove any files from the drive.. i cant use the disk at all..
I lost everything on the drive includung all the files that came with it.

how can i fix this or getl the files that come with the disk.. the password and protection files..

A buddy gave me a 4 slot usb reader. as soon as I plugged it into my usb port, my computer shut down. I removed the usb and it powered back on but it would not respond or show anything on the monitor. I unplugged it for a few minutes hoping it would reset but it did not. The fans run and it powers on, but it will not boot up. Upon further reveiw I realized the usb reader calls for a 5v- 2.5 a power cord. I used a 12v 1000ma power cord. I am sure this is the cause of the problem. I opened the CPU to see if I could find a blown fuse or evidence of something burnt up but I see no fuses, nor do I smell or see anything burnt. Any help as to what my next step should be would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to take it to the shop. Any other recommendations? Thanks!

I have a compaq pc with a DVD rom only.
My problem is that i it wont read my CD's or burn CD's.

Im not quite sure what i should or can do!
Its a small pc with only one drive socket (if that the right term) so its not like i can even put a CD writer in!

pls help.

I heard that hard disk drives and CD/DVD disks have limited life span and you'll eventually lose data.

I back up all my computers on external hard drives, but they go "bad" too right?

So, what is the solution to keep data for say, 30 years?

I heard there's such thing as "tape drive" that you can back up data and quite reliable for a long time.

Does anyone know about this? And can you recommend a good back up tape drive system?

It is giving me a message : No Dvd compatible recorder detected. You can enable DVD based projects by checking the option enable image recorder for all supported media types in the application prefrences. My question is how do i do this? I can't find the application preferences.

i have a dell xps410 that can take as much as 4 gigs of ram.i bought it with 1 gig.i just ordered 2 more gigs of ram for a total of 3.so my questions is, will it significantly improve my gaming experience and my everyday computer use? my graphic card is a 64bit geforce 7300le with 5.2gb/s.
