It depends what you use it for. A card with more video memory can store more information, like textures and shaders, locally, instead of having to copy them from somewhere slower like system memory or a disk. If you play games that use a lot of complex graphics at high quality/resolution settings, a card with less memory will run slower, or need to use lower graphics quality.

If you want to be able to play recent games with complex graphics at very high resolutions, the extra money for 512MB might be worth it, but for older games 256MB is fine.

The answer is no, there is not a huge difference in graphics between 256 and 512. In fact these numbers have nothing to do with the graphics. 256, 512 is only the amount of memory on the card itself. More important is the Memory speed, type and what GPU the card is using.

If you are an extreme gamer then, I would say yes. If not, and just gaming the usual fare, then I would say that the 256 M card would do just fine. Since that they are both the PCI Express variety they will perform faster that the AGP cards. The memory on the card is a buffer for the graphics, so the larger the buffer, the better the graphics. Since that the card is not waiting on the CPU to fetch more code to put on the card. That should help you.

To me. There is a huge difference.
If you are loading games ( i assume ) with alot of graphic the memory must be higher for a better performance.
Get a better one like a Ge Force 7 Series will do for 2 -3 full years.

Best of Luck
Cheers
