Since you said you used WinRAR, that's your best choice, re-do the compression.
When you go to "Add to archive" you get a little menu with options, it says Name, you put it in, Archive format, you set it to rar, Compression method , set that to "Best" and below is another selection box, by default it's blank, but you can select it. (If you don't get the prompt, open the actual program WinRAR, browse to the file and then click the big Add button on top)
It says "Split into volumes" (this makes it onto a series of files file.r00, file.r01, file.r02 and so on, then select the DVD-R option, when you extract them, you'll need to use the disks in order.
Once you have the final files, you can burn them onto your DVDs (4.7GB or Dual layer, whatever you have).

Another way is to do it with roxio Data CD Creator Classic, just add the file to your data CD software, then roxio will automatically divide it into many DVD/CDs, the negative side of doing this is that you need to have roxio to read the CD and WinRAR compression is a lot more generic.

These are both storage methods though, if you're just looking to transfer it, try to get your hands on a USB hard-drive or something like that. That'll save you the compressing, burning and copying of files to decompress, which is not hard, but it's time-consuming and you're wasting a ton of DVDs.

option one use split, to separate the file,
option 2 unrar your file then use Nero to create an image, that way Nero can compress and use multiple DVD or cd
