I check my email today and find 6-7 delivery failure notifications. I did not send them. I look at them, and they are all spam for some kind of viagra, with somebody elses name.

Um, my name is not Tommie. What the hell is this exactly? Is it spam who cloned my email? Or is there something in my computer that's done this, a virus maybe? If you KNOW what is going on or can at least help me figure it out, please let me know.

i connect to internet by LAN and use windows'98. After a big storm often has to be created a new connection. The guys from the internet company are bored of this and i am afraid they won't want to restore it the next times when it happens. Last time it took 2 minutes for them to do it but i don't know how to restore the connection by myself. Does anyone can give me an advice? I think they restore the connection by NetworkNeighbourhood but i am not sure. Thanks.

Not literally but I installed a sound card and when I boot up now all I get is the user name screen with no names, just the windows XP Logo? I can;t get to the desktop!!

I have done the following:

1. Removed the card
2. tried booting up in safe mode and last good config mode
3. Used the recovery console and tried FIXBOOT and FIXMBR
4. Entered the bios and trIEd disabling a few thigns there.

NOTHING WILL WORK!!

I can disable drives in the recovery console but which ones should I turn off?

( I have WINDOWS XP PRO and used a XP HOME disk to run the recovery console. My friend said this may have made it worse)

I use AVG antivirus .They have detected a virus and put it in the vault.I am getting messages from windows regarding the stability and to restore the file back. how do i do it or should i ignore it.
Additional Details
it says files that are required to run windows have been replaced by unrecognized versions and to restore the old files??and the virus is trojan horse? winninet.dll??thanks much appreciated...
