i connect to internet by LAN and use windows'98. After a big storm often has to be created a new connection. The guys from the internet company are bored of this and i am afraid they won't want to restore it the next times when it happens. Last time it took 2 minutes for them to do it but i don't know how to restore the connection by myself. Does anyone can give me an advice? I think they restore the connection by NetworkNeighbourhood but i am not sure. Thanks.

Its not very difficult job. you must have observed what he did to restore it. Go to control panel and click the Network connection and Creat new coonection. you can do the same by clicking the IE icon right click goto properties and fill up the required information you areconnected to the world. Best of luck....Try your own ...Norisk involed.......

Since you are connecting by your LAN, I'm guessing you have DSL service. It is a digital signal that shares the same wire as your regular phone service. But instead of passing a voice signal, it sends little bits of data that have to get reassembled before they can be understood by your computer. What I do is turn the power off to the router (if you don't have a router, unplug the modem) for about half a minute. Then plug it back in, and wait for it to reinitialize (it has to go through a boot process similar to how your computer turns on). Then you should be able to resume using your computer. Good luck.

Before the next storm, turn off your computer and unplug your computer from both the power lines and your internet connection.

OK this is what you do . click on the start button. go to settings click on control panel. then click on network connections right click on the connection icon. and click on enable.then go back to the control panel and click on Internet options. when that opens click on connections then click on LAN settings. then check the box that says automatically detect settings and click OK.
that should do it.
