"Which spyware is helpful and which is dangerous?
how do I know which software on the net will learn what I want and build up a profile to help me and which is dangerous, malicious and trying to do me harm"?

My next question after l've learnt a bit (only a bit mind) is this:-

You've got your Norton, Ewido, AdAware etc., and so on and so forth....and they tell you what muck you've got in your pc, but when it gets to the bit where you want to clear the crap out, they then land you with the unpleasant information that if you wan't it removed 'you gonna have to pay buster !

I want to know if the info you gleen from these various 'knights in shining armour' or vultures if you like - can you use it - take for e.g. CWS and go into the search routine on the start button - find it and delete it - I realise this won't stop them coming in again but is this the cheap option in the short term or won't that work ? And what is what anyway ? It's all doing my two brain cells in !!!

Since I figured out that my major was going to be computer programming rather than networking or anything else, I've ALWAYS been curious about something. I've always wanted to be able to set up a Beowulf Cluster, but I've never had enough machines to do it. I now have some old junk machines at the house with like 8 hard drives in them total, and since the interface for the hard drives is IDE and not SATA, I don’t really want to get an adapter, ect.

Anyway can someone tell me what their experience was setting up a Beowulf cluster? What amount of experience with Linux/Unix should you have (I currently have none), what are some good home applications? Such as creating your own cheap stand alone server, streaming media, ect.

I'm not woried about loosing anything on my old hard drive so thats not a problem, but I'm wondering how get my operating system on the new drive. Would I just use the rescue disks that came with the laptop, or would I have to buy a complety new operating system?

I've moved to a new apartment and my computer has picked up some nearby wi-fi networks, but they are secured. I want to share their broadband connection without setting up a contract with BT or anyone else. I would be willing to pay to share their access but I don't know who they are! I got a Motorola v360 phone the other day and my friends thought i should have gotten a Cingular phone because of the rollover minutes and the mobile to mobile benefits because some of them have cingular. I saw a plan on the cingular website with 400 min and 5000 nights and weekends for 39.99 but my plan with T-mobile has 600 min and unlimited nights and weekends for 39.99 as well. The only benefits i see with cingular is the rollover minutes and mobile to mobile. There both practically the same phone but the t-mobile has a mp3 player. This is my first phone and i dont talk on the phone that much. So any advice.

My buddy is switching from Cable internet to DSL internet and he isn't sure if he should take their modem and later get a router and adapter or else take their gateway and then later get an adapter.
