It is well documented that speeding causes accidents and fatal ones. I just returned from a long road trip and I saw so many drivers taking chances, speeding, and acting like idiots. Why do we do these things?
At one point, I was driving the speed limit, which happened to be 70 mph and a Corvette passed me in the right lane (I was in the middle lane) and he must have been going at least 110 and probably more like 120. There were lots of cars on the road. I wonder what he would have done if I had turned on my right turn signal. I shudder to think.

Haven't been on a motorway driving for some time but recently noticed the alarming amount of "tramlining" occuring in the slow lane especially M4 & M5.One area was so bad it pulled my cars front wheels to one side.I suspect the tram lines/wheel ruts are probably caused by the increase in HGV numbers and gross weights. I hope the highway maintenance authority are doing something about it.Anyone had any really bad experiences concerning this.

A friend of mine was caught by a speed camera doing 80mph through temporary roadworks where the limit was set at 40mph in the early hours of the morning on the motorway. He knows a ban is almost certain but is there a maximum period he can be banned for, or does anyone know long the ban is likely to last?

I was involved in a car accident in April. No cars were coming at the time I was making a left turn. The only vehicle was a bus and it was stopped in the right lane to load and unload passengers. The left lane was completely clear. When I was in the process of turning, a car came out of nowhere and crashed into me. Of course, because I was making the left, I got the citation. I believe she was speeding trying to get around the bus. This is my first accident (which technically isn't my fault, but according to the law it is). I don't know what to expect when I go to court in a couple of weeks. I don't know exactly what to plea. I have taken a defensive driving course and am planning on presenting that to the judge. I don't want to plead not guilty, because I did make the left and the court will automatically find me a fault for that. I don't want to plead guilty because I don't believe it was my fault. I have to go to court because I am under 21 (I'm 20). Would nolo be good? Please help!

I got pulled over for the first time today (Fresno County, Cali).
I was clocked at 74 on a 65mph country freeway, which I could hardly believe I got a ticket for in the first place. I'm a good driver and I have no previous violations.

I know I shouldn't have been speeding at all, but how much can I expect to pay for 9 mph over (clear weather, no traffic)?
Can I take traffic school to clear my record?

I don't know much about this stuff (I'm only 18); I tried looking it up, but the penal code was difficult to understand. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Without causing a big scene? (I don't want to say something like this car isn't moving unless everybody has their seat belts on.) In general, male passengers tend to refuse to put seat belts on.

one day it was pouring, and my shoes were filled with water as i was walking to my car, so i took them off and drove without them. i really loved the freedom of no shoes (not really a fan of anything on my feet).

so what do you think? is it ok, or do i have to wear shoes?

I turned into a driveway in order to turn my car around and when I was backing up I hit her wooden fence. I stopped the car and got out of my vehicle to look at the damage. A lady ran out of the house and started yelling at me to "not run away", which I was obviously not doing. She then started yelling at me for using her driveway and demanded my insurance information. My front headlight was dangling from its socket and the front was dented a bit while ONE of the fence posts was dented SLIGHTLY. I gave her my insurance card and she went inside to copy the information. When she came back out I asked her if I could take a picture of the fence for the insurance company and she refused, saying that it didn't show the real damage (???). I then asked her for her information, like name and phone number, and she started yelling at me to get out of her driveway. She told me she wasn't the owner of the house and that I should leave. I gave up after a bit and left. Does she still have claim?

This morning I was traveling to work and had to take the second exit, in a four exit roundabout. I've been driving about 3 weeks but have been doing this journey for two, my mum said there's a lot of cutting up on that roundabout so you should get in the right hand lane to take the second exit (she had an accident on the same roundabout taking the left hand lane for second exit) but I’ve always been told get in the left hand lane for first or second exit and right hand lane for third or fourth exit. So I checked the roundabout and it was clear I got half way across the first exit and out of no where a car (who I might add was traveling at about 50 mph) cuts me up badly, inches away from my front bumper, luckily I saw him and managed to slow down but it shook me up a bit. Was I right to be in the left hand lane? Or should I get in the right hand lane in future?

Cars that go faster than lets say 70 mph cause deaths and serious injuries. If cars were made not to go over a certain speed then it would lower accidents caused by speeding. there would be less speeding tickets, less high speed chases, less death by motor vehicles. this seems to be a simple solution for a stupid problem. What is up with that?

About three weeks ago, I backed into my co-worker's car. There was no damage to mine and appeared to be none to hers (she has a car cover on the front). A few days ago she comes to me a tells me that I cracked her bumper and the paint is peeling. We didn't file a police report. We were in a private parking lot in Louisiana. I think I'm at fault, but my insurance company says that we would each have to pay our own damages under the no fault law. She gave me a ridiculous estimate for her car repairs. Can she sue me for her repairs or her deductible? I have to work with her every day so I don't want there to be any hard feelings, but I can't afford what she wants.
