A green light grants you the right-of-way to proceed, and all cross traffic and anyone turning left is required to yield to you. Stopping at a green light could cause a rear-end accident, since the person behind you would not be expecting you to stop, and may be looking at other traffic.

It's perfectly OK if you turn right in an intersection with a green light, or even a red one.
However, if you really are driving conscious, it is best to go right when the signal is green because when your lane is green, the others have their signals red. That's why they won't move, and there is no one who shall turn into your exiting lane.

If you stop on a green light, you might get rear-ended, and cited for stopping on a green light. You only stop for red-lights or yellow lights (if you cannot safely make it through, as yellow means it's changing) or for stop signs. Green means go. And then there is if the power is out, you would have to treat it like a four-way stop then...Why would you stop for a green light?

Yes. A green light for a right turn means it's ok to go. I would still double check for oncoming traffic though, since a lot of people run red lights. At MOST red lights for a right turn, it's ok to go after you have stopped and there in no oncoming traffic. If it's NOT ok, there will be a sign saying - NO RIGHT TURN ON RED.

I think it depends on where you live! "Yahoo Answers" aren't read only by Americans, you know! In Ontario Canada you can turn right on a green AND even turn right on a red if you come to a complete stop and the traffic isn't busy and nothing is coming your way ... but in Quebec, the French cops will pull you over and throw the book at you for ANYTHING. (Especially if you only speak English).

If the light is green and it's safe to proceed, why would you stop? You'd be impeding traffic if you did stop without good reason and could be cited for that.
