I'm curious to know the answer to this! The ignition's only necessary to get the battery to start the car? So if the car's going does the ignition need to be turned?

I am honestly not as clueless as I sound! Just don't know very much about cars :)

My partner told me this afternoon that he is going out with some mates over the weekend and that they are going to a raceway that has free entry and then you pay $25 and you can drag against someone else and that the only rules are that you were a helmet and your car is streetlegal. Is this legal or is he playing with fire? I am in Australia and have never heard of this before.

can you run a V6 with one turbo on one side of the engine, or does it have to use exhaust from both sides of the engine. i thought that with a V engine you had to have two turbos or bring the exhaust together, then add a single.

I have a 1997 Ford Explorer with RWD, a five speed automatic, and a 4.0 SOHC and I was wondering if anyone knows how to do a burnout in this car or one like it. I know there are risk of damaging it and that it wears out the tire but I don't mind. I would appreciate any help, thanks.

PS. Please don't just start criticising the Explorers because its a pretty good car, these engines were built in Cologne, Germany, and the only reason so many Explorers rolled over was because the Firestone tires and the drivers not reacting right. Thanks.

I live in the caribean therefore I'm not as priviledge to have driver's ed in school but now I'm to the point where I want my driver's licence and I can't wait any longer. But driver lessons here are $25 an hour and that's pretty steep. I have taken a couple lessons but due to the high cost I would go on and off but now if I dedicate a whole week to it, an hour everyday, is it possible to learn to drive well in that amount of time?
Also any other suggestions are welcomed.

I cannot find anywhere my son can park his large truck whwn he comes thru here to see me for a day and 1/2. I am disabled and cannot go get him from far away where he might find parking. Does anyone know if he could park the very nice truck anywhere in Plano area. I don't get to see him very much because of this problem. I lost the keys to my 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. We purchased and had keys reprogrammed. Locksmith said he cleared the system and not to use the old key if we found it or it would put the car in THEFT mode. Well, we found the key and the key fob. Can we use the keyfob without the car going into theft mode?... What is theft mode anyway?

I have been told by Europeans that gasoline prices are about three times the price in European countries than in the United States. A citizen of England told me that he cannot understand why Americans complain paying $2.50 one gallon of gasoline when the British have to pay over $8.00 for just one gallon in American Dollars. I citizen in Germany told me that most families can afford just one car and you have to rely on public transportation just to get around.
My question is, why are gasoline prices so high in Europe then they are in the United States?

A few months ago, a container I was using to transport diesel fuel failed, and leaked inside my vehicle. This is an old vehicle used to transport work eqt. Although I was able to soak up the spill with newspaper and rags, the smell remains. I have tried washing the fabric carpet/ventilating the vehicle. Does anyone have any good methods for getting the smell out of the car? The smell is still quite strong, and makes carrying passengers impossible...not to mention giving the driver a headache.

Thank you everyone!

Hi,

I took my car to Just Brakes 3 weeks ago when my brakes were squeaking. I spent 350.00 for them to change all pads, rotors, etc. Then just in the last 2 weeks I noticed the brakes are squeaking again when coming to a stop at a lower speed. For example a stop light or a stop sign. I took the car back in and they said they didn't hear anything on the test drive. I then began to notice that the brakes dont squeak when they are cold. I usually have to be driving for about 30 minutes to an hour then I begin to hear problems. The Just Brakes people think im crazy and treat me like im ignorant, but the brakes sound awful. I spent alot of money and want them fixed. Why would a car with four new brakes only squeak when the car has been driven after about 30 minutes? This doesn't make sense to me. The Just brakes people want me to drive the car for an hour then come see them. I have a life and dont have the time or gas to waste for this. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions??
