Obviously you have never owned a vehicle without power windows. Instead of a button to press, there is a handle you turn to hand CRANK the window up or down.

In the "old days" people actually moved the windows in their cars up and down by hand if you can belive that. There was a handle on the door that was used as a lever to complete this burdensome task.
