Ever wonder why it is madatory for an average commuter to get a smog test every other year on their vehicle and all of these air polluting commercial vehicles ( school buses, public transportation, and big rigs) get away with not having to? I understand the fuel differences for the two but can not understand what makes them exempt from this requirement. Any opinions.....

Engines can be so musical.

V-twins give a heartbeat-like 'blat', V6s and V12 can give a lovely howl and V8s have a really evocative rumble. Why do straight-four-cylinder motors, with or without loud exhausts sound so tuneless? I acknowledge that the flat-fours as used by VW and Subaru have a pleasant 'drumbeat'!

I can only think of the 1960's/70's Alfa twinsparks as straight-fours that sounded any good, with a crackly, hard-edged rasp to them. Were there any others? All modern fours sound so bland - it's just noise.

What do you think?

Given the new road tax increases outlined in the Budget today, I'm half worried that my road tax might go up. My Elise has 'only' a Rover 1.8 engine in it and I get the same kinda mileage out of it as I do my 1.4 Clio, as far as I'm aware it's not a big polluter, anyone have any ideas what road tax band it would fall into?!

y side? My car is certainly totalled and I'll be getting an x-ray on my neck this afternoon. I don't want money that I'm not entitled to but I also don't want to get screwed. Since I'm not seriously injured will the settlement be limited to medical expenses and blue book on the car? Should I ask for something more just for the aggravation?

I just built a 13' X 6' single axle homemade trailer. What do I need to do to register this? Someone had mentioned needing a bill of materials or something of this nature. If I need that, how accurate does it need to be? It would be nice not to get slammed with taxes. Thanks for the help.
