Answer:

Clipping is one form of distortion that occurs when an amplifier is overdriven, which happens when it attempts to increase voltage or current beyond its limits.

When an amplifier is asked to create a signal greater than its maximum capacity, it will amplify the signal only up to its maximum capacity, at which point the signal will be amplified no further. As the signal simply "cuts" or "clips" at the maximum capacity of the amplifier, the signal is said to be "clipped." The extra signal which is beyond the capability of the amplifier is simply cut off, resulting in a fixed signal. Note that this fixed signal suffers from other forms of distortion, such as total harmonic distortion.

Because the clipped waveform has more area underneath it than the smaller unclipped waveform, the amplifier produces more power in clipping. This extra power can damage any part of the loudspeaker, including the woofer or the tweeter.

Learn it, know it, be it.

This is a $30,000 + vehicle and it has quite possibly the worst radio ever. Here in Minnesota I listen to the Twins in my car and can get reception for about 200 miles. In my truck, I get barely 75-100 miles. This is the AM radio. The FM is not much better. Short of buying a new radio, is there anything I can do, or am I stuck with is crappy radio?
Thanks

I have Sirius Sportster Replay and I have to turn up my volume all the way on the car radio and on the Sirius receiver and it is still not loud. When I turn back to the regular radio it definitely is much louder than when I use the satellite radio. Does anyone know why or experience the same thing and have any ideas how to fix this?

some car cd players say that they have "40w x 4 speaker system" does that mean that it has 160 watts? because other cd players just say "160w speaker system"? 10 points to who ever gives me the best answer.

2004 Camry won't play a regular cd or burned. It won't even read the disc cleaner that i put it. EVERY cd that i put in will stay in for a few seconds and then pop out. What can I do?

I have a 2004 Camry and when I put a cd in, after a few seconds it will pop out. I've tried using the cd disc cleaner, but it won't even play that. The cd player also has a tape deck (although I never have used it) and it's been working fine until now. Any ideas or suggestions?

I have a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge with the extended cab. I'd like to have nice sound but I dont want to risk getting broken into. Does anybody know of a way to install sub woofers under the driver's or passanger's seat? I'd like everything to be hidden from someone on the outside including the amp. has anyone seen this before? any pics?

Any ideas on how to put in a nice sound system without anyone being able to see it on the outside? Must be able to plug into the factory CD player)
thanks

At work right now, trying to find out how to take the dashboard off to put in a new cd car stereo... I wouldn't need a new mounting kit because they're both Sony cd players... just need to see how the dashboard around the stereo comes off to put in the new one.
