Hi all. I'm right at the beginning of the process of buying a barge/narrow boat in England to live on and was wondering if anyone knows about costs - berths, insurance etc... Many thanks for all helpful contributions.

What are the two things called that sometimes are put on some boats under it to keep balance. They look as triangles and they go all along the base of the boat. its something like this if you look from back of the boat, except that they are bigger. I think they are usually set on catamarans to keep balance.

Has anyone got any experience / tips and suggestions on the best way to suspend a mirror dinghy from a garage ceiling. I'm looking to store a mirror in my garage and the obvious place is to hang it from the ceiling (its very stong and will take the weight). I guess I will need some kind of strapping and some king of hoist to get it to the correct position... Someone must have done this already.

we put our boat in the shop for repairs & to install a new fish finder system. after getting it back home & driving it around the lake we discovered they left two screw holes in the back hull where they took the old transducer off. water has been able to get into the transom board area for a couple of weeks now.

i filled the two holes with epoxy putty today but wonder if i did the right thing. should i reopen (drill) the holes and let it dry out before sealing it up again? is it possible to dry it out? will there be damage to the transom boards if they stay wet? if so, what is the best way to dry it out? all opinions are appreciated.

If you were going to sail around the world, what route would you take? Where in the U.S. is the best place to start and finish? Which direction do you go around the globe?

I just installed a ss prop on my Merc 70 hp. Now when I shift into gear, either forward or reverse It makes a bad rumbling noise at idle speed around 700 rpm. When I speed up to around 1200 rpm it stops and everything is great. Shifts fine. New thrust washer installed.
Checked gear lube and no metal. Didn't do this with aluminum prop. I know the ss is much heavier. Could the extra weight be the problem?

It will all drop down but cannot find where to disconnect the shift rod. It sure looks simple, but can not solve the problem. The manual does not show this part. Please help.

I was researching the Underwater World Speed Record and it seems there is only information on a few military submarines which only go about 40mph.

is it true there is no official world record for travelling underwater? seems very unusual!
