we put our boat in the shop for repairs & to install a new fish finder system. after getting it back home & driving it around the lake we discovered they left two screw holes in the back hull where they took the old transducer off. water has been able to get into the transom board area for a couple of weeks now.
i filled the two holes with epoxy putty today but wonder if i did the right thing. should i reopen (drill) the holes and let it dry out before sealing it up again? is it possible to dry it out? will there be damage to the transom boards if they stay wet? if so, what is the best way to dry it out? all opinions are appreciated.

thanks. i kind of thought there would be problems if it stayed wet. i've just redrilled the holes and put a light under it. i did call the dealer that made the repairs and they said they did put marine sealer in the old xducer screw holes. he said that when they took the screws out of the old xducer water came out of the holes. so basically he's claiming it was already wet. sounds fishy to me. is it likely that water would get into the transome through screws that are tightly screwed in? he says the marine sealer they put in the old holes probably did not stick because it was wet. but it looked to me like they spent about 10 seconds making a couple of quick dabs with the sealer and that was all. what do you think? our bayliner has to be serviced by a dealer 2 hrs. away so we need to repair it ourselves. talk to the dealer every other day about this and the fuel gauge, etc. he is aware of it but it might be true that the transom was already wet when they got it.
