What are some things I can learn to start with before I take a sailing lesson? Besides learning to tie knots and sections of the boat what else would be helpful to learn before my lesson?

I want to buy my Husband a boat for Christmas, but when I go I know that salesmen will try to make me spend more than what I need to and probably try to give me a higher intrest rate too. How do I avoid that without being a pain. I'm doing research now on what brand of boat to buy so I won't be ignorant when I go, but still I'm worried that won't be enough.

I'd like to build a stitch and glue kayak in my garage this spring. In preparation, I'd like to build a small scale model or two using stitch and glue plans and processes in order to familiarize myself with this construction method - and to hopefully make some of my mistakes at a smaller scale as well.

Does anyone know of any resources (web sites, books, suggested materials...) or have any experience in doing this? I saw one mention on the web of model building as a first step to building a full scale kayak, but now I can't find the web page.

I have a couple hairline cracks toward the top of my Shakespear VHF antenna. The antenna is around 8' or so, and the cracks run lenghwise, about 4 inches, toward the top. Will this affect VHF reception? Can I seal the crack with 5200 or something?

I have an 1986 Bayliner cuddy (notorious for soft transoms) with a 125 Force O/B, all in great condition, except for some weakness in the transom.
It flexes a bit if I put my weight on the lower end of the motor
Is there anyway to reinforce this, short of a costly transom rebuild?
Does anyone make or sell aluminum or steel plates?
Thanks,
Joe

I though about buying a small boat park it in the marina and live there instand of rent a small ugly studio apartment in soho and pay 600Pound (1200$) a month.
Anybody here lives on a boat?
In london climate it will be okay living on a boat?
How much a small sail boat with a room I can live in and a small mini-bar should cost? How much the electricity, the water bill, and the rent should cost monthly?
Rain won't get in ?
Is that strange to bring women to the boat you live in ? ^^
