Warships 30-35
merchant ships 7-12
small 40 foot yachts...or lifeboats...... about 4..

Same as now. Unless you are into the Global warming, in that case it would take a bit longer with the warmer water temps. A few degrees different in water temperature means the propeller is not "Biting" into warmer water as much as colder denser water. So the difference between 1940 and today may be the difference of an hour or so longer....
If your question was how long would it take to go 3,838 miles in a boat, then you need to know how fast the boat is going since they all had different speeds. At 10 knots, (is about 11 MPH) it would take about 348.9 hours or about 14.5 days...
The faster the boat, the shorter the time. The much faster Ocean liners could make the same trip in as short as four to five days.
