Someone in another one of my questions said at 400 a year i have to file taxes, but does that mean that after 400 they start taxing? Becaue i thought anything under 8k was untoachable. Does it make a difference if im a self employed minor and a dependant of my parents?

If i made more than 3k but only since august? My parents have always had me as a dependant until now. Could i be like partially dependant? Why are you considered independant once you make 3k A YEAR? What??!!

Also exactly how much do you get for having a dependant? Isnt it like 6k you get to write off?

Is there anyway around this? Like since my parents pay, and can prove the pay, for my school, clothes, food, transportation, everything.

Also can i still file taxes as a dependant? Im self employed and im gonna need to file taxes this year, because if i do it under my parents name i wont be able to afford their tax bracket percentages! (im a minor)

So my bfriend and couple friends has been working at a company and when they first started, they began to pay them with cashiers check "under the table" [aug/sept]. Now they are doing "Payroll" [oct] but they are deducting taxes from the time they were being payed cash [aug/sept], because they said they need to do it, and they can do it. Ive asked around and alot of people tell me they can't besides the amount is ridiculous. They are suppose to get paid $10/hr for 30 hrs a week w/out taxes would be 600 & approx like 500 dollars a week with taxes deducted, but there check have been coming like 300-350/ bi weekly i think that is just STUPID. and also one thing we noticed was that on the "payroll stub" it shows that deduction as 1/4 advance along with taxes, medicare, etc. Alot of people told me we can report them to Ca Labor Commissions i want to make sure i have the right answers first. If anyone can help me i would REALLY appreciate it.
[ By the way they dont work there anymore] thanks

Hello again:
Can you please tell me what taxes my 70 year old mother will incure when she sells her home to the City (through imminent domain). My mother had owned the home for over 35 years and the sell of the home is for $290,000. Will she have to pay capital gains tax? Will she get a tax concession for being over 70 years old and owning the home for close to 40 years? Will taxes also be negated because the city will purchase the home and not an actual person? What kind of real estate taxes will she have to pay? Can you please give me a website that I can reference to obtain more information about this sale? My lawyer mentioned that since the sell of the home was over $250,000 my mother may not incur taxes but he told me to seek advice from an accountant. Can you please help us thank You!

Currently I work as an Independent Contractor and have from mid May of 2007 to now. I reside in Florida and was wondering how much money I need to be setting aside to pay taxes?

YTD, I have made approximately $6200.00

I am about to get a job as an actual employee and will most likely be quitting this one. Approximately how much am I looking at to pay as of now? If I weren't to quit, is there a ballpark percentage of how much to expect to pay so that I can figure this out in the future?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give!!

I have not received my state income tax check yet. It been a long long time i know but i just realized today that i have not got it.... i received a letter in the ,ail saying i owed money to our local college and they would be taking the money from my state taxes to pay for it and i would be left with $130 after they deducted what i owed annd would be getting a check. I went to the college to re enroll and they said i couldnt because i owed them money. apparently the college never got paid either.... i need a phone number of someone to contact to see what is going on with this. I want to take care of it before the new year rolls around!!!

A couple years ago, my dad who is living overseas purchased a condo for me overseas. In order to avoid dealing with a mortgage and to have more flexibility, I have been making monthly payments with the average interest rate at the time to him directly (no bank, no mortgage). I have been deducting interest when I filed my taxes over the past couple years. Other than a seperate document that I developed that says I, Mr. XYZ, will be paying Mr. ABC the total amount with the following interest rate for the next 15 years, I don't have any other legal document. This so-called contract was both signed by me and my dad and legalized by the local authorities. By the way, technically, my dad does not have a lien on the condo (like banks do), it is in my name and I can sell it any time even if I stop paying him. I have been worried that if I get audited by the IRS, they may not buy my story although I have bank wire proofs showing monthly wires, but is that really enough?.

My second question is that the 'OFFICIAL CONTRACT', different from the one mentioned above, that is registered with the local authorities shows an amount lower that the other contract between me and my dad. We did that so the seller, my dad, would pay lower taxes at the time of the sale. This did not impact me because I am paying the agreed-upon price, the higher price, which is listed in the other document between me and him. Would the IRS question why am I paying a higher amount than the amount registered with the local authorities?

My final question is that I am getting ready to give my dad an amount higher than my monthly payment in my next payment (10 times my monthly payment) and I don't want to wire it because these days the US dollar is weak and the bank automatically converts the currency before they deposit the amount into his local account in local currency. My plan is hand him the amount CASH, so he can convert it at his convenience when the dollar goes up again. In other words, I won't have a wire receipt this time. How do I get some type of receipt that the IRS would deem acceptable in this situation?

Thank you very much in advance for any help you might provide me,

I have lost some records of the amount of interest that was paid to me by my Savings & Loan bank where I bought some Certificates of deposits ( CDs ) for 6 month period at a time & auto renewed them every six months.

Is there a way to find the approximate savings account interest rates for CDs from 1992 to 2005 ?

I know that it varies from bank to bank and also depends on the amount deposited ( Mine was over 10 K ) but usually Savings & Loan banks used to pay higher percentage rate than a regular bank but as far as I remember it was still not more than one percent higher than a regular bank.

Any help would be appreciated.

He wants to know if he can claim me as a dependant. Can he? If he can do I still need to file? What forms do I need to fill out? I have no idea what to do with my taxes. I don't quite understand what papers I need to fill out. Please help! Thanks

Benefits are not a concern as I have medical under my wife's plan and won't have enough time in for 401k or vacation time.

This is a 6 month contract to hire position in which I would work for a contracting company until the end of six months at which time I will either be hired by the company or the contract will not be renewed.

I am not sure whether it matters whether I do Corp or 1099, but the contracting company is asking me which way I want to go.
