If you worked overtime and your employer or supervisor did not direct you to work overtime, then you have violated your employer's policies. He doesn't have to pay you for time he did not authorize.

No an employer doesn't have to pay overtime if he/she did not authorize it. If must learn to do you work in the 8 hours you get paid for, what you don't complete leave it there for tomorrow. If it is something that is important to the employer then they can do it themselves or ask you to work overtime.

If they did not authorize overtime then no, you pretty much worked for free. Unless they ask you to stay to work on a project that will require overtime and you're hourly then yes they have to pay it. If you're a salaried employee then there is no such thing as overtime pay.

No of course not, if that were the case how many people do you think would just lag around the office finishing up work that could have been done earlier just to earn the ot pay? You only get paid for ot that you are authorized for.

however if you are a minor, you probably aren't permitted to be working overtime -depending on state and federal labor laws
