After e-filing my return I received a 1099-R for a distribution from a retirement plan from my former employeer. This was a direct rollover with no tax implications. Am I required to file an amended return?

I am living in Washington DC. But I work in Maryland. My W2 form states that I paid taxes to the state of Maryland. So, I filled my tax return for Maryland online, and I found out that they are goind to refund me 100% of the money they withheld. So, should I also fill a tax return for Washington DC? Please, advice with some links to official web pages so I can explore further this issue.

This past year I decided I wanted to start a business (photography). I've only purchased a few things and haven't made any money yet. Can I claim what I purchased as a deduction? Do you have to have a Tax Id number before you can do this? Do I have to file a seperate form (from my standard tax form)? - Thanks for the help!!!

I just received my 1099 from my online broker. I'm not sure what to report on gains so please help me. For simplicity, I bought stocks at $2500, and sold them for proceed of $2800. My profit would be $300 so I'm thinking I should only report $300 as income/gain but my 1099-B only seem to have $2800 as gain. I'm new to reporting stock taxes so please let me know if I should only report $300, thank you.

18 years old. I am dependent on my parents. I work part time at an assisted living center.

So I have come to ask the gurus of Yahoo:

I use to have two part time jobs. I quit one of them back in August (because I was starting school, and I wouldn't be able to work on weekdays).

So here are my questions:

1). Will I have to pay taxes for the job that I quit almost 5-6 months ago? (I haven't gotten my W-2 for it, btw it's KUMON).

2). When people refer to the $5121 limit (correct me if I am wrong) where if I make over that much, I must file for taxes. This may sound stupid but uh...does that mean that if I made $5121 in one year, I must file for taxes, or in total over a period of time (i.e over say a few years)?

Thanks for helping a tax newbie out!
