On your property taxes- what is a "Non-AD Valorem" charge? And what is an "Ad Valorem" charge.

I noticed that I was charged an extra three hundred dollars under "Non Ad Valorem" charge for my property taxes.

Also-what criteria do they use to determine how much of an increase is used for your taxes? I purchased my home earlier this year. I noticed a dramatic increase from what the previous owner payed and what I am going to pay. Does homeowner that bought a house in the same neighborhood a year or two before I did (when house prices were lower) pay less property taxes than I do?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Is it true that if you use the capital from the sale of an investment property and put that towards another property that you will not be taxed on the capital gains via tax? How does this work exactly?
And can you use the capital gains toward any type of property such as a primary residence or a second home or does it have to be toward another investment property to avoid paying capital gains tax on those proceeds?

I purchased the bare land with my husband (now deceased) and
built the cabin on the land. I lived at the property for about two years, (1991-92), however my principal residence is elsewhere in
the County. I have the property mortgaged to FSA (Farm Service
Agengy-Dept of Ag) along with my farm which is my principal residence, and the entire proceeds of the sale MUST go to debt retirement. Do I have to pay gains tax on the entire selling price???? Where can I go to find out if any expenses incurred (i.e. property taxes, improvements to the parcel of land) are deductible???

For my 2004 taxes I owed the IRS 300 some dollars after interest and all that bullshit. So for 2005 my accountant figured out a way that i could get $800 back. So minus what i owed the irs i should get roughly 350-500 back. I called someone about it about a month after i filed my taxes back in March and they said it was still going through everything and everyone was taking my share and that i would get some soon. How come i still havnt got it yet? who do i contact about it?

PS it is my IRS FEDERAL TAXES, not state

Refering to my previous subject "Estate tax and inheritance tax", with all my online research and double confirm from one of the answerers. If my father's total net asset is less than 1 million (With the tax exempt limit of 2 million as per 2006), there is NO Estate tax and Inheritance tax. then here's my another question:
I know that some peoples are giving gift US12k per year to each of their hiers free of gift tax. We were thinking of doing that as well, but with what i discover from my previous question, if all the inheritance from my dad is going to be both estate and inheritance tax free, then what is the point of using the gift strategy? Or am i right that the gift strategy is only needed by those who has more than 2 millions asset?

I have a partnership with 3 people. Ownership is 50, 40, 10. Bought land for 100k 10 years ago. Now worth 200k. I want to distribute the land to the partners(50% to one partner 50% to the other partner, and the other partner(10%owner partner) doesn't want the land, only cash). How is this transaction handled? And what are the relevant tax issues?

My fiance claimed my 2 kids and me on the 2005 income tax return
and IRS audited him and we did not have enough evidence that shows he
lives with me and maintains my kids finacially well we have to pay back
more than $5,000, he made a payment plan and is paying up to date. Now
we're getting married this month and I know we can file joint returns
because now we're gonna be married, now about the kids I'm not sure he
can claim them and I didn't work these past 2 years( my son was
diagnosed autistic and had to drop everything to take care and look for
programs and help) What should we do for this year, everything is in my name
but as soon as we get married we're gonna change all the bills and lease
in our name. How should we do this tax year so we don't get in trouble
for just not knowing.
