I heard if you claim a lower number of exempts on your W-4( the form from your employer) then pick the other exempt that you qualified for back up in the end (filing your taxes) you could receive a larger return. Is this true?

I know that if you sell your home within 2 years and make a profit, the government requires that you report it as income. But since I lost money, and sold it within 2 years, can I claim it as a loss? I bought the house as an investment to fix up and flip for more money, but the market screwed me over.

I am on wage garnishment (10%) of gross pay due to a partners' embezzelment of NYS sales tax. I lost my job, missed payments, and they seized what was left of my bank account. Now married and expecting, will NYS seize my family's accounts? Does it matter how one files their taxes? I don't know where to go.

I'm looking to apply for FAFSA, and I'm not sure if I have a hard copy of it in my records... I know I filed it with TurboTax, but they're assuming that I want to START filing. I don't... I just want my 2005 form. Where do I get it online, or CAN I get it online?

Would we come out better from a tax standpoint if we were married? The last 2 yrs I've claimed my boyfriend on my taxes (legally as verified by my accountant) but I'm wondering if we would get back more if we were married.

I know using funds from an IRA to pay for qualified education expenses are accepted and not penalized. However, I have a mortage and will need some cash to help pay it. "Room and Board" is a qualified expense but how would this work in my situation?

O.K. I know that a Roth IRA uses after-tax dollars and grows tax free and that certain contributions to a traditional IRA are deductible. Has anyone considered the very long range (30+) impact of federal income tax rates on their decision of which form of IRA to select. Given the level of the deficit and the national debt, I sense that we may be in a period of historically low federal income tax rates and that in, say 30 years from now, rates may be so high that I end up paying more taxes on withdrawals from a Traditional IRA than that taxes I would pay on my contributions to a Roth IRA today. Your thoughts?
