Hi I am an Indian currently working in Kansas City, MO. Yday I got salary and I was shocked with the amount. I have $50 K annual salary means $4166.66 monthly salary. They charged me fed tax $848, Social Security $327, pre state tax $235 and medicare $76.
That goes to $1488. I think this amount is too much as per my income. I stay in KS state and work in MO state, whcih tax will be considered ? Is it a correct amount ? How can I get exemption on federal tax and social security tax ? Provide some contact numbers of good tax consulatants in MO. Please reply. Thanks in advance.

I don't know the rules of MO nor KS but if both states require tax returns at year end you would have to file a non-resident return for the state you work (MO) in and a resident return for the state you live in (KS).
For federal tax you should have completed form w4 when you started working which explains how many exemptions you can claim and whether you can claim to be exempt from fed tax. If you're making 50000 it is doubtful you can be exempt from fed tax withholding
It is also doubtful you can claim exemption from social security unless you're clergy.
As for being Indian its is the Indian tribes that may be tax exempt. Generally, as American citizens, individual American Indians and their businesses are subject to federal income taxation, unless exempted by treaty, statute, or Act of Congress. Tribal membership does not exempt an Indian from federal taxation.

The following is a website to help you calculate the correct fed withholdings: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96196,00.html

Assuming that you are an H1-B visa holder from India, you pay the exact same taxes that everyone else here does. There are no exemptions.

Aside from buying a house a having a bunch of kids, there is not a lot that can be done.

You can request a transfer to Haiti or Afganistan. There are no taxes there.......

circulate on your close by post place of work or library do no longer circulate to a tax place of work and ask for unfastened place of work work - they do no longer artwork for the IRS and actually fall sick of folk getting into their place of work inquiring for unfastened suggestion/place of work work/etc.
