My daughter's sister in-law and her husband have not filed taxes since 1998. If they file them now can they also be charged criminally? Would they go to jail with minor children?

I inherited a house 20 years ago value $125,000. Today worth $600,000.+ My daughter has been living there for the cost of upkeep. I want to sell, can I reinvest moneys made without paying capital gains? If so how long do I have?

If i want to avoid paying state income tax on a large sum of money I might make off of the sale of a stock, can I move to another state like Texas that has no state income tax and not have to pay California state tax on it? How long will I have to live in Texas before selling the stock? Can I keep our house in California and rent it out or would I have to sell it in order to avoid the tax in California?

I'm going to be starting a Fellowship in the State Senate -- I'm really excited about it. I will be receiving a stipend, and I was wondering if a stipend is taxable like other income. Thank you.

I know I filed electronically with H & R Block and they give you pages to print that show confirmation that you filed. How about with other companies and/or the IRS itself?

I doubt my ex filed taxes at all and he's claiming he needs child support reduced. He's showing papers that have numbers on them, but no proof that the IRS has these documents. I'll accept legitimate claims, but don't want my kids cheated if he's fudging the numbers. HELPPPP!

Why is it when TV commercials are selling things they only charge sales tax to certain states if any, but I am being told that I am required to collect it in all states that have sales tax? Every time I ask anyone in any tax office I get a different answer. Am I really required to do this in states other than my own? I had e-mailed some of the states who sent me info in the mail and some are even requiring me to file a tax return in their state once a year whether I have sales in that state or not? Is that legal? I have no physical presence in their state and it was my understanding in the beginning that my only obligation was to the state I lived in and had a physical business presence in. I feel like I am getting answers from people who don't know what they are talking about. I have no problem sending them their tax money if I collect any but filing a return even if it's zero in not my state? Any advice would be appreciated. I can't seem to get straight answers anywhere.

My father signed over his interest in a building in Los Angeles to me in 2002. He passed away early 2003. A tax lien in his name for taxes on another building was placed on the title of the house I took control of in late 2003. Now I'm trying to sell and after first being told by a lawyer friend (about 8 months ago) that I wouldn't be liable because the liability was attached to my father, my realtor is telling me that I am liable. The amount is substantial, so I would be eternally grateful for any advice or help.
