Back in September my husband received a letter saying he hadn't paid enough National Insurance Tax for 2004-2005. I then got the exact same letter today (which was dated 23rd December!) saying I hadn't paid the same amount for the same tax year.

Considering we both work full time I thought it was strange, but when I rang them they said, "Oh yes, there was some paperwork problems back then and we hope to resolve it in about 12 weeks so you might get a new letter saying you don't owe anything".

Has anyone else received this letter? Do you think it's a disgrace that even though they know there is a problem they are still telling people they haven't paid enough when they probably have?

I got sent a digital camera from the states through the post. Postal chages were all paid for that end, the contents were declared on the box, when it arrives in England all I get is a note saying I owe them 12.90 for a customs charge, and that I have to go pick it up and pay them! Why on earth would this happen?

My ex wife got addicted to drugs and I fought her for custody from Oct. 05' to Aug. 06 for. In June of last year I didnt have cutsody through the court but I have the police reports that show I had my daughter and the reports stated not to give my daughter back to her because of safety reasons. In July, I got temp custody through the courts and August I got permanent with my ex having no visitation with my daughter. Although I had my daughter, I continued paying $140 a week child support until August. Now that I have custody, my ex hasnt paid the first penny in child support which Im not concerned about but she says she will claim her on her taxes. I havent kept her from my daughter but I make sure she has supervised visitation every other weekend with my daughters grandmother. I feel like I should have the right to claim her since I did pay my child support and I am also sole provider for her now. I pay her child care, schooling, medical and anything else she needs.

Since tabac is WAY to expensive in the UK im thinking about importing some cigars from Spain. The price difference is 50% so worth the trouble. Anybody experienced any problems doing that or knows if I have to pay something once they get here?

I have just discovered that when I moved house 18 months ago, the council re-banded my house from F to G.

All the other houses of the same type were and still are band F. Why would they do this?
Are they just trying to bleed me dry?

It's been on the news recently that lots of people's homes were put into the wrong band, therefore they would have been paying too much council tax for years.

My claim for tax credits recently changed as my partner moved out, i am now claiming as i single parent with full child care costs to my 2 children as i work 20 hrs per week. However i havent had payment since 18th dec as this is when partner moved out, i made a new claim and just yesterday they contacted me saying they wanted all this extra info bank statements, work contract, last 3 wage slips, nursery reciepts and nursery contract. Semt all this to them today. Thing is i know i have been over paid by about 40 per week since june, should have mentioned it i know, however as i havent had payment since 18 dec they owe me around £1500 in back dated money, do u think they will take what i owe them out of this lump sum or do u think they will take it weekly?

Hi everyone, I'm just going to explain my situation and if any of you could offer advice it would be greatly appreciated, (Im in the UK):

Over the last year I have made around £100,000 from various websites I set up.I received the money via cheque and deposited them in my barlcays current account. I also made that money when I wasn't registered as a business. I'm assuming this means I fall into paying tax as a sole trader....

And if so the rate will be extortionate (up to 40%). Is there a way I could incorporate now, so that I pay just 19%... and pay 19% on those earning even though they were paid into my bank when I wasn't registered?

Thanks,
Alex

P.S: Also if anyone happens to know of any viable schemes such as reinvesting in the business, etc please say

P.S. Could I for example buy a ready made shelf company formed 2-3 years ago, so that I can say I earned the money when I was incorporated, see:

I pay my council tax monthly and the installments are 10 payments from 1 April to 1 January for the period 1 April to 31 March (payments due on the 1st) I was a bit short of cash with Xmas ect so paid Decembers and January's instalments by cash on the 23rd Jan. Today I recieved a Court summons for the 2 outstanding installments (Dec and Jan which I paid on the 23rd of Jan) .the summons is dated the 20th Jan and costs £40. As I have paid my Yearly amount in full before the end of the period (ie 31 March) can the council persue me for payment of the cost of the summons ?.
