If you want to find the VAT within a price, you divide by 1.175 then take the number from what you started with.

13.99/1.175 = 11.91
13.99 - 11.91 = 2.08

Or multiply your total by 0.149

Easy, tax is 17.5%.
£13.99 / 100 = 0.1399 which is one percent.
Times that by 17.5 (17.5 x 0.1399 = 2.44835 ) which gives you the tax, £ 2.45
Add them together (2.45 + 13.99 = 16.44 ) and that gives you a total price of £ 16.44,
£ 2.45 of which is tax.
