My wife and I just got married in June and have yet to change our W-4 forms to married...is this a problem? Do we have to change our forms to say married or can we continue to file as single? Not sure how this whole process works. Thanks a lot.

Does the local library have any way to take money out of your tax return, when they claim books have not been returned?
My friend used the after hours drop box to return 3 books. When she went to check out more books a few months later, she was told 3 books were past due. She told the woman at the desk, that the 3 books were put in the drop box months back. The woman got real nasty and told her she couldn't check anything else out And that if she refused to pay the late fees, that the library would get that money back from her tax return!!!
Is this true? Can the library take money from her tax return?

My taxes were "underestimated" (according to the tax assessor's office) which resulted in an underpayment by me of $2900.00. This tax increase/bill seems a little high for me (especially since I live in a tax-freeze zone as my house is new construction in a "rehabilitated" town - that is they offered special tax incentives to the builder and future owners to build and live there respectively) for only one year.

Does anybody know whether this type of tax increase is unusual, and if so, what should I do about it? I would like to fight the increase, but don't know whether this is a "normal" estimation process in NJ. Any insight into this problem would be great. Thanks in advance.

...working in the construction industry, still be deducted 20% tax when working as a contractor?

I am working on a site for another company, but I am the main contractor on that site - I have had 20% tax deducted from my payments...

Is this correct? I thought that as a Limited Company, they do not do this...

I am losing a large amount of money because of the tax that is being deducted... any advice would be welcomed.

Many Thanks

I should add that my wife doesn't work, but will be starting a job in three weeks. Should I change my withholding from single to married? If so, how many should I claim? I like the idea of getting more in my check every week, but I don't want to get whacked next April. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Is this statement correct? Pay stub year end totals should all be the same as reported on your W-2.

If your pay stub year end wages are the same as reported on your W-2 your FICA should also be the same on both documents?

In Out corporation we get paid different amount every week, now when you write yourself a check through quickbooks it calculates your taxes withdrawn based on the amount paid [and how much it would be if the same amount is paid throught the year]
Is there something that i need to do in quickbooks in order to make sure that the amount that quickbooks leaves out of the check for taxes is correct every week?

If an non-profit organization accepts donations, can that money be legally deducted from a paycheck on a pre-tax basis? If this can be done, how would you file the income tax return so that you don't claim it as a further deduction?

I am a full time college student and I also work for my school's transit system. When I first got hired and filled out my tax information I may have done so incorrectly. I may have placed a 1 in the area where it asks about dependents, I don't have any. I believe that because of this there are not a lot of taxes being taken out of my paychecks. For instance, I received a check once for about a gross pay of $602 and about $6 of federal and $16 for state taxes were taken out. I redid my tax information and requested that an additional $5 be taken out of federal and state each. And when I redid it, I put a zero in the area for the dependents. But, the amount of taxes being taken out is still not what I think it should be. No more than about $40 for each check. I don't make that much, my gross a year would probably be about $11,000. Will I have to pay the IRS during tax season because of this tax situation? How do I fix this???
