Nope, not a joke, but a scam. You click on the link and it takes you to a site where scam artists are just waiting for you to enter your personal info so that they can steal your identity. Just delete the e-mail. You only file a tax return once a year, and the irs doesn't give you a refund part way through the year. They don't know how well you are doing for this year, so there's no way they could calculate any kind of refund amount for you.
By the way, how would the irs have your e-mail address? there's nowhere on the tax return for that info.

This is a SCAM!!!!!! I not too long ago learn approximately this & I'm considering it was once both in my neighborhood newspaper or it was once at the www.irs.gov internet site. The IRS under no circumstances sends out e-mails to anybody. The electronic mail will have regarded reputable, however it is not. Do no longer reply to such Scams someday. I think sorry for the inclined & naive men and women who've fallen or will fall for this Scam. What a disgrace on the grounds that it is Identity Theft within the works.

It's a scam. They will use your personal information to commit fraud. IRS doesn't send email for tax refund. IRS has your personal information already and it just send you a check in the mail. Any time, anyone asks for personal information to give you something back should be examine carefully. If you're still not sure, call the IRS or write to the IRS but don't use the address from the email you received.

It's a SCAM. The IRS never contacts taxpayers by e-mail. There's no place to put an e-mail address on your tax return to begin with, so how could they possibly have your e-mail address??

It's not exactly a joke - it's a scam. The IRS does NOT send out emails like that - if they find something wrong with your return, and either you owe or they owe you, they'd send you a letter.
Delete the email. Someone is trying to get into your pocket by scamming you.
