And my second job I am self employed. I usually come pretty close to 40 or more hours a week on my second job. What I am not sure about is I want to hold back enough Federal & State taxes so that I don't end up paying at the end of the year, but I don't want a large refund either. I am one who likes to have their money weekly. None of that refund stuff for me. I want my money now. My employer deducts Fed, state, local, medicare & social security so will I have to do that with my SE taxes as well or will I be pretty much covered? And I find many calculators but none where I can use both employer taxes and SE taxes? Any suggestions? Anyone know of any loopholes I can look into. I have 3 children and I take care of a disabled aunt as well.

Someone I know (yes, it really is someone else) has had tax withheld from his paycheck for the last ten years, but hasn't filed a return for any of those years. Any advice on what he should do? I told him to go to the IRS and file - but now I'm wondering if I gave him good advice. Should a criminal lawyer handle this?

My co-worker and I were faxing documents, we were standing next to the printer and we saw that our boss had printed out a letter. I didn't want to be nosy, so I didn't read it...but I was able to read that he was filing for bankruptcy. My boss hasn't said anything to us but I'm getting paranoid. Does this mean I should start looking for a new job??? I've been working for my boss for 3 months. The last boss I had let me go because he couldn't pay me anymore. He had too many lawsuits( he's a doctor)

So now I'm worried about this new boss. Should I worry??? should I start looking for a new job??

I recently bought three tshirts from USA. I had to pay VAT and, in addition, an £8 "Release Charge" to the Post Office. This represents about 25% of the cost of the goods

My husband is American, I am Canadian, and we live in Canada. If he buys a lottery ticket in Canada and wins a large sum of money, does he have to submit a form to the IRS declaring this?

I know a little about US tax laws but have not been able to find the answer to this specific question. I know that lottery winnings are considered "unearned income" and that if he were in the US, he would have to declare his winnings and be taxed on it. I also know that he has to declare his regular earnings while in Canada however, I could not find any information on whether or not foreign lottery winnings have to be declared.

I've been unemployed since April 2007. I asked some of my friends & some of them said I still file taxes & the rest aren't so sure.

When I filed my taxes this year, I was employed. But next year if I still don't have a job, do I still file?

I am thinking about getting an apartment and friends are telling me that the rent I pay cannot be claimed as expenses on my income tax. Is this true? I was always under the impression if the landlord claims my rent as income then I'm in the clear to claim it as an expense.

I live in the USA in Florida BTW.

So I'm self employed and I get taxed up the ***. I went to a tax guy and he said I should set up a c corp because I would pay lower taxes. However, he said that I would not be able to spend any of my income, and that I'd have to live off of a second source of income, like my wife or getting a second job. I really didn't understand it. Does anyone know what he was talking about?

Did you know by January 1, 2008 , Cigarette's are going to take a $6.10 a carton tax hike? State and Federal cigarette taxes have been raised 73 times since the year 2000- increasing the average price of cigarettes 80% a pack. Everyone should pay their share of taxes- but it's unfair to single out smokers once again for a 156% tax increase.
TELL CONGRESS THEY'RE GOING TOO FAR
Let congress know targeting smokers with a $6.10 a carton tax hike is going too far!
Please take a few minutes of your time and visit:

Now that Barry Bonds has broke the all-time homerun record, here’s a fun question for you tax geeks. If you are the one who caught the ball, what are the tax consequences? Will he have to pay taxes on the ball because of ownership, or when they ... if they ... sell it?
