I am a 1st time home buyer and am in a high tax bracket (33%). I am considering whether I should accept points and buy down the rate and claim all the points (approx $11,000) in the current year when I file my returns next year? This is not a refinance mortgage.

I live in the city. My tax preparer did my Federal and State returns in April, but did not do my City return. As she filed electronically, I did not realize she did not file the City return. I've recently received a bill from the Collector of Revenue for the City, with late payment charges. Should she assume any responsibility for my late payment charge? She is sending me a completed City return free in the mail, but did not mention anything about reimbursing me for the penalty due.

Not a question as such but more of an observation.......

There are a worrying amount of HMRC officers present on Yahoo answers and on that basis I think users should be a bit more frugal with the information they give and questions they ask..........

Don't get me wrong they are providing some good answers to some topical issues and maybe some of that is in their own time.......

I do hope there is nothing a bit more sinister behind their activity ;o)

All hail the taxmen........

Now my very modest check is only about $100.00/week after it is garnished and i am so afraid that i won't be able to raise my children properly if something were to happen to him is there any precautions i can take?

I filed it through the mail and I was supposed to get money back. Turns out they never recieved it. Is it just as simple as re-mailing it, or do I have to configure it w/ a penalty? Do I even have to pay a penalty?

My gf just started working at a local bar/night club as a shot-girl and waitress. Apparently, the new owner is just hiring local college girls left and right without even checking their driver's licenses (he hired a 17 yr old to serve alcohol). The guy intends to pay under the table. He also said that he doesn't care if they take a few drinks while working.
My question is: is this common? How illegal is it? And most importantly, could my gf get in trouble with the IRS etc. for not paying taxes on ANYTHING?
I'm 19 and I've only ever worked in pizza delivery, so I don't know how most of these places do business.Thanks.

Many International Businessmen register theirs as "Offshore Company" for the Package-of-Incentives attributed to Tax Haven Countries. Non-Disclosure of Ownership, Tax-free benefits, unrestricted FX On-Line Banking are some of the many.

I've heard it's minimum wage plus commission, but I've also heard that the work is anywhere from 29-80 hours a week, so that's a huge difference in pay. I was hoping that some one that's worked as a seasonal tax preparer for H&R block could tell me how much they make on average for the 4 months (along with average hours a week). I'm majoring in accounting, so I thought this would be good experience, but I have a job I love already, so I don't want to do this year round (I have 2 young children and I would never see them!! :)

I am very new to this; I am going from a large corporation where I never had to think of this. But I have accepted a job with a corporation out of NY. I am the only employee in California. I receive Medical and Dental and was under the impression that my responsibility was to pay my part of the taxes on my own...............Fine, I can do that no problem. But I am being told that the Company will not be paying their half of FICA or SS or Unemployment since I am 1099. I feel like I am getting the shaft here. Can they do this if I am an employee not under contract or limited term? I was told they are doing this because they are not set up in California as an employer, but why would that stop them from paying half of the fed taxes on the employer side? I have an appointment with a CPA, but that is a week away and I am having trouble keeping my worries at bay. Any help would be appreciated.......Thanks
