Go to this website:

Fill in the form (SS-4). You'll have one in 5 minutes. TIN, EIN is all used interchangebly.

When you look at the form you'll see that there are many reasons for getting an EIN. Pobet K has NO IDEA what they are talking about.

You want to fill out and send in a form SS-4; it is for what is called an EIN (Employer Identification Number). A TIN is taxpayer identification number which you get with a form W-7; which is what people who cannot obtain a social security need. The EIN is for business purposes, even if you have no employees. You use it for banking purposes and all sorts of things; it shows the business actually exists.

If you are a US citizen and your business won't have employees at least at first, your social security number IS your TIN (taxpayer identification number. If you are going to have employees though, you'll have to apply to the feds for something called an EIN (employee identification number) and will likely need a number like that from your state also.

you must establish a business, under your business name. This will require you to pay and file several different forms to the government, some forms are monthly others are quarterly.
Getting a TIN and not being a REAL business is fraud and a criminal offense.
