My soon to be ex-wife is a real estate agent and in good faith when we were still together I trusted her to file the taxes. We haven't been together for the past 5 years, we now do our taxes separately. My problem is that a couple of months ago i recieved a packet from the IRS informing me that my soon to be ex-wife claimed ridiculous deductions and now owes 30,000 dollars from the taxes that for she filed for us. She supposely claimed dry-cleaning,car maintence, and many other unnecesary things for her job. I requested information for the years that she filed the taxes and it say SHE filed a Schedule C and Schedule SE and it says that she is Self-Employed. Okay, so now "we" owe 30,000 to the IRS, What can I do?? I didn't claim those deductions, plus what we owe is more then what i make in ONE year alone. She makes more then eighty thousand in a year. Will I be held liable for it? Or is there a way that i can make her solely responsible for it since she claimed it?

Money is tight, so I want to claim all my exemptions so the taxes aren't taken off my check. My wife and I qualify for Earned Income credit and the Child Tax credit with our two kids. If I do this will I still get a refund, or will I have to pay?

If I have a corporation in another country making money through internet advertising, could I then pay myself (in the US) most of the income as a salary and then deduct that as a business expense so that the only tax I'd be paying would be US income tax?

Is anyone a payroll specialst/Tax preparer? if so: could you please help me out on this...
We're in the state of Utah... if that helps...

Monthly net pay of $3920.00, (with 480.00 of that being overtime pay)

From what I understand, the state income tax takes $46.00 of the net pay, plus 3.3 percent of any amount over $2000.00.
The federal rate is 15%, and the social security is 7.65.
With all that information, how do I figure out what our pay will be after taxes?

Anyone know which would be better? Say for a real estate holding company. A company that does nothing but hold assets.

I just received a letter from the IRS stating that in 2005 I didn't claim my capital gains and that I owe them penalty and interest. My 1040 was prepared by a firm and they left out a Schedule D. I supplied the 1099 but they didn;t file it. Now I'm looking over my 2006 1040 and they left off the Schedule D again! Now I have to amend my 1040 and send it in with the proper Schedule D filled out and I will have to pay more penalties and interest. I feel I should not be responsible for their incompetence.
