Is anyone a payroll specialst/Tax preparer? if so: could you please help me out on this...
We're in the state of Utah... if that helps...

Monthly net pay of $3920.00, (with 480.00 of that being overtime pay)

From what I understand, the state income tax takes $46.00 of the net pay, plus 3.3 percent of any amount over $2000.00.
The federal rate is 15%, and the social security is 7.65.
With all that information, how do I figure out what our pay will be after taxes?

Sorry, I didnt mention he hasnt started work yet. We need to know so we can determine how much we can get our mortgage for and still be able to live comfortably. I think in Utah overtime is taxed the same as regular income if it doesnt push you into a higher income bracket

Go to www.Paycheckcity.com and look at the personal calculators. I think you mean 'gross pay' and not 'net pay'. You need to know how many allowances you have, and your marital status. This is for Single-0

Monthly Gross Pay
$3,920.00
Federal Withholding
$636.42
Social Security
$243.04
Medicare
$56.84
Utah
$229.85

Net Pay
$2,753.85

You already gave that: $3,920.00. Net pay is after taxes.

If that's your GROSS pay, go here for some handy estimators: http://www.paycheckcity.com

Or just do the math, you have everything you need to figure it out.

You're taxed on your total pay, so overtime absolutely CAN put you in a higher tax bracket!

I am not a tax preparer but................. taxes are also determined on the # of dependents you have too. And I have noticed that when I work overtime that they they tax the hell out of it. in some cases I got 50% of my overtime taxed. they best way I would suggest to estimate is by keeping track of your pay stubs and do the math
