I make $27800 at my job a year & my children's SSI payments are $18109 a year. Right now with all my bills, I'm barely making ends meet. My credit is terrible from a past bankrupcy, I need help now so I don't have to sell my home. I'm really at my wits end.

I have lots of bills at credit agencies all over that have accumulated over the last 8 years, from car loans to doctor bills. I almost filed bankruptcy about 2 years ago but decided not to. I have run into a hand me down of money and wil finally be able to pay them all off soon. If I added them all up I probally owe $15,000.00 between 20 different credit agencies. Is it possible to somehow talk them down on what I owe them? Or is there professional help I can seek and maybe get them all into one big bill and have it reduced? I would like to fix my credit and save as much money as possible doing it.

My parents share an account at Bank "A" but my mother opened a 2nd account in Bank "B" under only her name so her son could deposit his checks in there (he owes taxes and child support - SHAME SHAME) and my mom has bounced 2 checks in the passed month in that account. Can this affect the account my mother shares with my father? And if yes, how? Any help would be great!

I wonder if there has been studies to show how much more expensive it is to live poor than rich?

For example:
- Poor pay interest in credit card, rich pay credit card instantly and get the rewards.
- Poor pay high prices for small items, rich pay high price for bulk items which in turn costs less overall per quality.
- Poor rent, rich own houses and put monthly payment into equity.
- Poor borrow money paying interest on student loans, rich go to best school with no debt at the end.
- Poor tend to eat worse and have more health problems than rich which ends up costing more.

Some items paid over time end up costing twice as much. Bottom line is poor people pay a lot more than rich people and many times go into bankrupcy just trying to live normally. A rich person looks at the poor person's monthly rent and yearly income and wonder why the person can't live. It's because the cost to poor people, that rich people do not have to go through, is so great that it cripples them.

I'm going to London this summer (if I can get the money of course) and my financial aid office say they can't do anything about my finances until mid-july which doesn't help me since all my tuition needs to be paid in May and I need money to fly over there. I've asked them about loans and they didn't help.

So, I'm going to get private loans. Has anyone had a decent experience with education loans or loans in general? Would you recommend your place? I've looked around and haven't found any good ones. I need something that has very low payments and best if not to be charged until after I'm out of school.

Any help? Please?

I've heard that declaring bankruptcy doesn't necessarily free you of any outstanding debts anymore. Is this true? If so, what's the point?

I'm not about to declare bankruptcy but this is a discussion some of us were having today.

The total debt I owe for school and credit cards adds up to about $17,000.
Although I know this is far less then average, I am frustrated with paying high interest, esp. with the credit cards. Should I apply for a loan with my bank to pay it off- and if so, what kind of loan should I go for?
